Sepia Saturday

It''s been a busy week and this is my only blogpost all week. But I think these pictures are so fun, I had to share them.

I think this might of been a New Years Eve party.
The men are my Uncle Rex, cousin Kendall and I don't recognize the 3rd man.

Men at one table, the women at another.....
I think their little farm house decor, in the 50s, was just charming.

Uncle Rex resting, probably reading the weather or a farm report or maybe the sports page.

I expect Uncle Rex was going to eat both of these waffles, how he is posing with them is really funny to me!

I am so glad she hosts this one.

  1. Those are the biggest waffles I've ever seen! Oh my! That is hilarious!

But my favorite is the top photo ...the men in the frilly aprons! :)

  2. Don't you think those waffles were supposed to be cut into 1/4ths?

I love the photo of the men in aprons too!!

  5. My grandpa had a waffle iron that made huge waffles like that in the late 50s. I loved watching him cut them in little squares for me, perfectly, so the syrup would stay in puddles. I could barely polish off 1/4 of one, though.

  6. Oh, I love these pictures. Everyone looks like they are having such a good time. My hubby bought me a scanner today. I hope to be able to post some family photos soon......

  7. Fun photos, Rhonda! They certainly looked to be having a good time.
I love waffles and homemade are the best! Even quartered, those are pretty darned big.

Isn't it interesting how the men appear to be at one table while the women have their own group too?

  10. I want a waffle! And that wallpaper! :)

I wonder what cocktail is being concocted there?

  11. The kind of photograph where the background is just as fascinating as the person in the centre of the picture. Such a rich vein of social history.

  12. What a great post, I love the photo of the men in aprons too! These brought back many memories, as we had a giant 4 waffle square iron too! I especially like your banner photo, and have to tell you that my grandmother stitched the same clock pattern and my grandfather assembled the same clock that is behind you in the photo. It still works, and is proudly displayed at my mom's house. Thanks for sharing such fun photos.

  13. I remember some photos somewhere with men in aprons too...but the size of the waffles! Now that is HUGE! I noticed how they dressed up in shirt, suit and tie even visiting at another's home. I remember when my parents and aunts, uncles did the same. Good clear photos!

  14. Hi Rhonda, I think that sort of wallpaper was popular in the UK in the 50s. It's a lot plainer now. Loved those waffles. I also saw your last Sepia post (how come I missed it before) and the idea of going to school on a horse would have appealed to me in my younger days.
Thanks for visiting my Sepia blog.
