Monday nights storm

July was the hottest month ever in Oklahoma since records have been kept sometime in the 1800's. It has also been dry. So we were really happy to see a storm that moved into our area last night. We got 1/2 inch or so of rain that was very welcome.
But we also had some straight line winds.
The only damage to us was all the toys in the backyard blew around and we had a lot of leaves and mulch blown around in the front.
Many of our neighbors had more damage.
Our neighbors on the west side lost their backfence.
Our 2 neighbors on the east side lost the fence that divides their yards and that big Bradford pear tree split.
this house about 200 yards behind us lost a good size section of shingles.
On our walk this morning, we saw more fences blown over, garage doors blown in, debris all over the place.
The worst part of the storm was our power went off about 7 p.m. and was off until 1:38 a.m. Half our town was without power and we are very appreciative that our electric workers were able to get the problems repaired, even with more rain and lightening that continued through as they worked through the night.
Storms are scary but aren't the rainbows, God's promise, beautiful?

  1. Is that your grass so brown? My, you weren't kidding when you said you needed rain. How ironic that we have been soaked most of the year. Wish we could share! Glad the damage was only minor. Those bradford pears are so lovely but so fragile. ugh.

  2. Yes Betsy, I am afraid our grass is that brown and crunchy too.
a few our neighbors water heavily and they still have some green but I gave up.

I am not a fan of Bradford peartrees, they look pretty when in bloom but I think they smell awful

I am so thankful our damage was just minor

  3. Goodness, we live in windy country, but I don't remember ever seeing anyone's fence blown down or their garage doors blown in. Those conditions must have been a nightmare. Glad you're okay........Denise

  7. Glad you didn't have any major damage. Rainbows are so pretty.
We had so much rain ALL spring and into June and then to the 100's. This week we have gotten a few tenths and temps this week are only in high 80's. Take Care.

  8. Wow, that was a little more than just rain! We could see lightning in the east before we went to bed. Had a nice shower earlier in the evening. Hope everything gets put back O.K.!

  9. I'm so glad you came through without any harm to your property.
A rainbow always reminds me that God sees all, and knows all.
So glad you got some rain!

  10. Glad to hear that you survived the storm with no damage. Our July was cold and wet. We have had autumn since June so I am afraid when autumn comes, it will turn to summer again. I hope not since I am longing for cold weather and wearing my scarves. :-)

    Hugs from Holland ~
