Pumpkin chevron dresses

My daughter in law showed me a chevron print peasant dress with pumpkin applique from Pinterest.  Of course it was expensive and she asked if I could sew something similar. Peasant dresses are quick and easy so I said yes.  And since I was making one little dress,  I also made a second one for our other grand daughter.
the dresses are brown and white chevron with machine appliqued pumpkins
I used Mccalls 6530 for both dresses. The larger one is like the long sleeve version but I just cut the dress part longer and did not add a ruffle to the bottom.
The smaller one has no hem ruffle either and I did not add the chest elastic. Also, the smaller dress has elastic at the wrist of the sleeves.
The brown and white chevron fabric was bought on EBay. I was very happy with its quality, reasonable price and the fast shipping. The seller was FantasticsTreasures4U.
If these dresses get handed down to other little girls,  I put a size tag in the back of each one.  I used a small piece of seam tape and hand wrote the size with an ink pen.

  1. Cute! I like how you sized the dresses. I have received some hand me downs that my mom made and I had to guess which box to put them in.

    1. Wendi, I just saw some homemade costumes at the thrift store and I could not even guess what size they were and that is where my idea for making size tags for clothes came from.

  2. Very cute and I love the applique. I miss my mom making my dresses, as I am simply too lazy to make any these days.

    1. Tammy, you better make Brad and Si some Batman shirts. I think they would like Batman more than Pumpkins :)

  4. Aren't those just the cutest things! Adorable!

At the Country Living Fair this past weekend, one booth was nothing but little girl dresses made from vintage pillow cases. So cute!

    1. Betsy, my daughter in law also wants some pillow case dresses for Andie but I'll only be sewing them for her as my daughter does not like the pillow case dresses at all. We all like different things, don't we?
I would of liked to see that booth at your Fair, I am sure it was cute as could be!

  8. Sweet dresses! The tags with sizes is a great idea; I used to put tags in the back of skirts and pants to tell back from front.

    1. I've added tags to the back too. I recently saw some very nice home sewn Halloween costumes at a thrift store and it was hard to even eyeball a ballpark size on them and I wished they had a size tag. So, that is where the size tag idea came from.

Those dresses are adorable! I love the slight tweaks you made from the pattern. The little girls will have everyone wanting to know where they got their dresses. Such a good idea to put the size tag on the dress.

    1. Hi Ladyperry, I don't seem to ever follow a pattern or a recipe exactly, there always seems to be a tweak I want to do. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't :)

  12. Hi Rhonda! Oh how I wish I had a little girl to sew for! If I ever get one, I will go nuts! These are sweet little pumpkin dresses and you did a great job on 'em! I see your living room came together and you've got lots of room to wander and sit down and your little ones have a big area to play, too. Looks very nice and comfy! Have a great weekend!
