Supper is cooking

It's almost noon and I just started supper.
I put a whole chicken in our bigger crockpot- spray it first with something nonstick, season the bird however you like and I like to cook birds breastside down.
In the other crockpot I put foil wrapped sweet and white potatoes.  They don't have to be wrapped but sweet potatoes tend to drip and caramelize when they cook and I am hoping to avoid that mess.
Both the chicken and potatoes should be done after about 5 hours on high.
I made a big salad last night and we will have it too.

I cooked a chicken just like this last week and planned to make chicken salad with the leftovers.  Four of the young grands were here for that meal and they liked that chicken so much, there was none left!

A whole chicken makes an easy, low cost and healthy crowd pleasing meal around here.
Do you have any other meals that work for a group?

  1. I always rely on chicken (whole or pieces) for a group. Ground beef dishes or a big pot roast are also good. I wish I had your dinner tonight :-)

  2. Oh thanks for this! I will be using this soon as I have a whole chicken in freezer that needs to be used. Looking forward to that! Blessings! Sandy

  3. Yummy. A Crock Pot of pinto beans or chili works around here.

  4. Chili always works here too along with crockpot lasagna. Love our crockpot. It's used all the time.

  5. It's been awhile since I've done a chicken in the crockpot. I need to try the potatoes.

  6. Great idea to put a whole chicken in the Crockpot, especially in the summer months when it's too hot to turn the oven on!

  8. I've never thought to turn it upside down -sounds like a great way to try it. Roast is one of my favorite meals for a group (if it's on a really good sale). Have a great day Rhonda!

Love my crock pots, especially in the summer..
The other day.. I put some pork chops [ I seared them in a skillet , on both sides before putting in crock pot], Cream of chicken soup and chicken broth, and sliced onions. Made instant rice
and broccoli .. It made a big pot and we eat 2 meals from it.
It was great not heating up the kitchen.
