Nina saw some very cute and very expensive fabric playhouses that fit over card tables on Etsy. At their home, the play area is in a nook beside the dining room and Nina wanted to use their tall dining table as the base.
She used low-cost brown sheets for all the walls and roof. Her big shortcut was using the finished edges of the sheets as the bottom of the walls so she would have less sewing.
She used fabric from my stash for the curtains, window boxes and door. _the door is not quite tall enough and will need to be adjust though. The windows have clear vinyl in them, she bought it at Hobby Lobby and it looks good but my machine did not like sewing over it.
Pretty cute isn't it? And it can easily be moved and folded up at meal time.
What a wonderful little playhouse for Elizabeth, I love her ingenuity. She certainly takes after her mom, doesn't she.

ReplyDeleteThat is a darn cute ideal!!! Good job Nina. I will have to remember that if I ever have a granddaughter. Elizabeth I am sure will love it. My kids and nephews loved Jaymees little playhouse and this would be much roomier. Love how Nina and you do stuff together.

ReplyDeleteIt also brought me back a very fond childhood memory. My mother had bought me one when I was little. In those days they were plastic for over a card table. It was a hat shop and I just loved sitting inside my little shop. And I hope Elizabeth has as much enjoyment out of her beautiful house.

ReplyDeleteThe oil skin vest I got at the garage sale is some of the Australian outback clothing that is a canvas fabric that has been oiled to make it weatherproof. That means I have to be careful not to wash it, just to sponge it off when it gets dirty. It looks like an item that was probably very expensive when it was new. I'm delighted to have it.
You're likely right about the attitudes of the small towners I have encountered. Time after time I have discovered that people who are standoffish at first turn into wonderful friends.

ReplyDeleteClever idea, I have a patchwork book with a similar project, never got around to making it and now my youngest is 15...........perhaps I'll have a go at it for the grandchildren......love the thrifty style with the sheets too.
