It is another crazy-hot summer in Oklahoma but I am still doing a little baking.
I do it all the same time so the oven only gets heated up once.
Last week, I made 3 loaves of banana bread
a pan of brownies - and shhh, don't tell my family but I used a jar of baby food prunes that I found while cleaning out, the recipe called for 1/2 cup of butter - I instead used just 1/4 cup of butter and that tiny jar of prunes. They were delicious too.
I also made a batch of whole wheat bread dough in the machine and added some of the vital wheat gluten I got from Amazon last week. They turned out much lighter than 100% whole wheat normally is.
I am sold on it and will be using it in all my recipes.
This camera angle gives a distorted view-
it makes the hot dog and sandwich buns look bigger than the bread loaves :)
If you're going to bake while it's hot, doing it in one session is the way to go! Your prune brownies sound interesting--LOL!!! (But I've read that you often can't tell stuff has been added.) I like using Vital Wheat Gluten when I bake yeast goods as well; adds lightness and a better texture! I've gotten it from Amazon as well but then noticed that our local Wal-mart carries it.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me while I drool on my keyboard looking at all that yummy bread!!! What a clever idea to add the baby food to your brownies, I have used black beens instead of oil in brownies that works out well.
ReplyDeleteYum. I bet your house smelled wonderful while all of that was going on! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are always baking something, I think I may make brownies tommorrow.. I will have to look and see what baby foods I can put in .I do not recall ever hearing that one
ReplyDeleteI am drooling. I love bread! Everything looks so delicious, Rhonda!
ReplyDeleteOhhh... the gluten makes the difference? Your breads look delicious! I think I'll buy some gluten and try it. Your home must of smelled sooo good!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you; the name of your blog has become a mantra in my head...If you do stuff, stuff gets done! I've spent much less time on the computer and trying to stay focused on the job at hand, and no kidding, I repeat your blog name in my head and it works! It always makes me think of you and makes me smile!
