A generous coworker of my husbands brought us a bag of pecans from their yard.
They are really nice and big pecans. My husband started cracking them after supper and picked out 20 ounces in a short time.
Fresh pecans are the best, much tastier than the roasted and older ones that can be bought in bags in a grocery store.
Nice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous gift!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the year a friend from Georgia sent me a couple of pounds of pecans from her tree for a Christmas present. I was thrilled!
ReplyDeleteThat would be a most welcome gift here too,
DeleteYum!!!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a sweet gift....saved you probably $100 from the looks of that bag.
ReplyDeleteblessings, jill
I think you are right about the $100. I am going to weigh them as Jeff's cleans them. They really are yielding a lot, except for the ones the grandchildren are snitching in.
DeleteIt must have been a good year for pecans because I've gathered in LOTS of them. They're almost gone now so I don't yell at the crows anymore. :) Each night I crack a pan full and pick them out. I've probably given away at least four gallons. The farmer says they're really high dollar in the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are a speedy nut cracker! I looked at pecans a few weeks ago and I think they were about $12 a pound in the baking aisle at a OKCity grocery store.
DeleteI grew up with pecans straight from the tree and really prefer them plain, over the roasted store ones, or whatever they do to those.
Not to mention they are so expensive in the stores. I know that in the last few years it is almost the same price to buy a pecan pie as to make your own from scratch :(
ReplyDeleteThey are expensive. My mom is the pecan pie maker in this family, hers are the best!
DeleteThat was nice! We have a pecan tree but I have to fight the squirrels for them!
ReplyDeleteI have not had any yield at all from the better pecan trees this year and very little from the back yard tree that we've 'earned' from in the past two years. I was disappointed, but these things work out one way or another. I found TWO pecans from one of the better trees, lol. Mama blessed me with a bag but I too like fresh pecans. The one tree that has a few is a seedling, very difficult to shell and pick out.
ReplyDeleteWe've been gathering quite a harvest too from several trees. Now for the cracking...
ReplyDeleteWhat a TREASURE! I would just eat them one after the other!!! They are just so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh yummy! I love pecans. Jos just got back from a trip to the US. He spent the weekend with my mother on his way to California and bought us a bag of pecans from Heggies which has wonderful nuts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in to visit me. I am glad you have not forgotten me while I was neglecting my blog. How is your dear mother? Is she coming to visit over Thanksgiving?
Hugs from Holland ~
Heidi
Lucky you! We have had so much rain this summer that no one has pecans around here.
ReplyDeleteWould love to find some to crack...just paid $9.99 for a bag ...just wondering, do you put crackers in your dressing???
ReplyDeleteI have never had fresh pecans. The ones that you have look meaty and delicious! Enjoy!
