Planting seeds and a new pocket hose

We needed new water hoses and I did some research on the new compact hoses.
After scanning the 2000 or so ratings for pocket hoses on Amazon, it sounded like it would work for us.
Pocket hoses are not durable with high water pressure and with big yards. (We don't have either)

I was still a little wary so I bought one at Walmart so it would be easy to return if it was a huge failure.

I used it today for the first time and I think it will be perfect for our small yard and for watering the outdoor plants. It is small enough to just wind it up on the faucet- no big hose reel or holder needed.

We've got an unplanted flower bed in the front and I think zinnias will be the easiest and least expensive choice. My husband picked out 4 packs of bright color zinnias. I mixed them all together and planted them in 2 rows this morning.
So hopefully in 6 weeks or so, there will be a hedge of colorful zinnias.

My mom always grew zinnias and I think they are so pretty and make really nice bouquets too.
But I don't see zinnias in other yards much - they used to be in most every yard.

  1. Good information. Those hoses seem like such a convenient idea. Let us know how it works for you after a little time. The zinnias look so pretty on the package. I don't garden much - we have shrubs and trees (some flowering), hostas and plants like that, but no flowers. This makes me want some. In re to your previous post, flowers for cookies seems like a good trade. The flowers are beautiful!

  2. I bought one, too! We haven't tried it out yet.

I love zinnias...they are gorgeous! I pinned a beautiful colored one that I'm going to try to find. In past years I've had a problem with a fungus or mildew getting them. Haven't tried in several years, so I hope that problem is gone!

  3. I never even heard of a pocket hose until now ! :)

I love zinnias...and they are so fun. Having a variety of them is a surprise every day in the summer! :) You never know what pretty and unusual bloom will show up next!

  4. I love zinnias. I have 2 garden beds planted with them, different varieties all mixed together. Since I love cut flowers, growing them is the cheapest way to guarantee fresh flowers daily throughout the summer. I love roses and lilies also but lilies don't last long as cut flowers and roses just demand too much from me. So zinnias it is!

  5. Yes, I will be interested to see how well it works for you after a few times in use.
Zinnias seem to be one of easiest flowers to grow. I don't have much luck with seeds anymore; there are so few seeds in a package too. So if I have good blooms I like to save my own seeds.

  7. I have tons of zinnia seeds tucked away that were leftover favors from our son'd wedding last summer. Now I just need to remember where they are!

  8. It's amazing to see so many of us who love zinnias. I want to hear how you feel about your water hose after you use it for a while. Our elderly neighbors have one and they love it just because they don't have to roll it back up. :)

  9. I love zinnias! I grow them in a bed in my vegetable garden. I just let the seed heads dry and in the beginning of winter I shake the seeds over the beds and next year I have more flowers. I haven't bought zinnia seeds in years!

  11. I am a little slow in catching up on my favorite blogs. My daughter has that kind of hose and loves it. She talked me into buying one, which I did late last summer. I never did get around to hooking it up and using it since I didn't plant anything last year. That flower bouquet is beautiful. How sweet of him to bring it to you.

  12. I have never seen these kinds of hoses - what's the advantage...takes up less space? I love zinnias - they're so beautiful and colorful.

    1. Melanie, the pocket hose is small and light weight, and just easier to get out for watering and then roll back up with no kinks.
I liked it so much, I got a second one for the back yard. They are short and really for just small spaces.

  13. I think zinnias are pretty, too! They will make a beautiful border. I"m going to plant some around my veggie garden. It may be a bit late but I'm going to do it anyway!
