Camels, pecans and CVS

We are still picking pecans.  The pecan orchard is right beside a small animal park and this sweet, social camel lives there.
We were picking near the fence and he came over to chat.  He really likes having his head patted and being talked to.  I understand he likes to give kisses on the cheek but I didn't want to be that friendly.

In the background is more of the animal park.  I don't know what all lives there but I've heard they also have kangaroos and their monkeys can be seen in their big enclosed areas.
The pecan trees we've been picking.
The harvest is plenty but the workers are few........

CVS
I did this deal Saturday so it is not available any longer but it is a deal they repeat every so often.  The Eucerin was buy $20 get $10 ExtraCareBuck.
I used a 30% off any lotion coupon from my CVS app, $2 coupons on each item and I think $10 in ECBs.  It cost about $3 cash and I got back $10 ECB.
All these products count toward Beauty Bucks and when I went to CVS Monday, a $5 ECB for Beauty Bucks printed for me at the red scanner.

There were a lot of specials this week.
Lots of items to buy and get their entire price back in ECBS.

I spent about $8 and got back $17+ in ECBs.  Just the 2 gallons of milk would be close to $8 at other grocery stores.  I drank the Ocean Spray Pact orange flavored drink on the way home from pecan picking,  it tasted very good.
CVS has another sale that starts Thursday and I've looked it over but I will probably skip it.

Other Black Friday shopping is up in the air.  If I see something we want in the newspaper ads, I might do a little shopping but I won't be standing in any mobs or camping in front of any stores.

I have not yet made a to do list for this week.  We've been busy with family and grands until this afternoon and then we spent the afternoon at the pecan orchard.
So tomorrow, I'll do some minimal housecleaning and plan out the Thanksgiving cooking.

Hope you are all having a good week!

  1. Dear Rhonda,
Somehow it seems funny to me to see a camel in the US, we hav them in the outback here.
It is fantastic about the pecans. I am not sure I have ever seen a pecan tree but I have had pecan pie and loved it! Just thinking about it makes me hungry. I know you will put these to very good use. With love, Annabel.xxx

    1. Hi Annabel, pecan trees are very common in the southern USA. Some bear good big pecans and some don't. And some years, like this year, the weather cooperates to produce a bumper crop.
I am so happy about our pecan bounty and yes, I will put every one of them to good use.

    1. It is work but it's not sweaty or tiring work. We either sit on the ground or we walk slowly and use our pecan picker upper things that are rolling baskets on a stick. The orchard is just beautiful too.
      Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

  3. Hi Mrs. Rhonda,

I'm sure it is fun to see the animals at the animal park while gathering pecans. Each time I read about your pecan gathering, I so miss our east Texas pecan trees (you know the pecan tree is the state tree for Texas).

Great sales in your area! But, black Friday is a huge NO for me; especially now that we live in such an excessively rural area. When in town, I experience sensory overload from being around too many people on our regular quarterly shopping trips - I expect I''d experience a full blown panic attack if I attempted to navigate a black Friday shopping trip.

    Blessings,
    Mrs.B

    1. I grew up in east Texas and you are right that good pecans come from there.

About Black Friday deals, I won't be standing in lines or crowds to get any deals but if some local stores have things we need, I might do that later in the day.

  4. I miss the pecan trees back home. What a cute camel, I don't think I would be too friendly either with him. My niece went to Africa during college on a missions trip and had a giraffe lick a cheerio off her lip. They say, a giraffe's saliva has healing properties in it, but I don't think I would be happy with a slobbery kiss.

  5. Hi there! I love the camel pics, and I'm pea-green with envy that you have been picking pecans for free. My middle name is forage. ;) Somehow your comment at my site didn't go through, but I just found it and immediately popped over to say hello. Forgive me for arriving late, but as they say ... better late than never. Have a great week!
