Some sweets cooked today

I'm trying to do everything simply and this is how I started our Christmas baking today.

Double batches of oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies and one batch of that "crack" cracker toffee candy.

My husband tasted them all and gave them the thumbs up.  The oatmeal cookies are his favorite and he joked I could just put that container in our room (so he wouldn't have to share.....)
But I packed them all away in containers we already had and put them in the freezer.

I'll take them out later this week when the family gathers here.
The cracker toffee chocolate candy is very simple to make and it makes a lot - I do recommend it if you're  still planning your holiday cooking.  Just look on Pinterest for the recipe and method-  lots of people have blogged about it.

My brother's birthday was in the summer and I sent him this coupon.  He sent it back to me last week in my birthday card.  I happily filled his request while I cooked today and now his container of cookies is labeled and in the freezer too.

Are you cooking this week?  I'm guessing most all my readers are!

  1. I'm not cooking anything special until Christmas eve. It's only me, hubby and one of our three sons this Christmas, so Christmas eve I'll cook a glazed ham with veggies and Christmas day we'll have roast turkey, veggies and ham leftovers.

  2. Mmm, your cookies look delicious! I wasn't going to bake any cookies at all this Christmas because Brian and I have given up sugar (for the most part). Every year I used to give his sisters and father cookies for Christmas, but now they're having health problems, so I didn't think this was a good idea anymore. But then I was going through my recipes and found one for pecan snowball cookies and decided to make those to bring to my sister's house on Christmas. Here's wishing you and your family a wonderful and blessed holiday together!

  3. Within the past few days I have made 8 loaves of banana bread and 8 loaves of cranberry orange bread. Most will be given away as gifts, but a few will be set aside (and in the freezer) for Christmas gatherings. :)

  5. I baked early in the month and have given all my goodies away already. Now I'm thinking I need to bake some stollen, it isn't Christmas without it!

    Merry Christmas!

  7. Hi Rhonda, your baking looks absolutely delicious and so professional. I do not bake much anymore. That way I avoid the temptation of eating it though I do buy a few snacks at Christmas (like mince tarts and Nanaimo Bars). Each year there is a bit of a different focus on the goodies. Enjoy yours with family and friends. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  9. Yum! Everything I've made so far has been consumed. Argh. I'm hoping to bake tonight and tomorrow.
I like your coupon idea and may well do that for Nick and Scott. Nick stays away from treats for the most part, but once in awhile I make one of his favorites and he enjoys a small helping. Scott is appreciative of any and all treats I make and send home with him.

  11. Hello Rhonda,

Your cookies look delicious. We had a cookie exchange at our church early this month. I baked up 10 dozen cookies (6 to take and 4 for the freezer), thus, my cookies were also baked and ready to be thawed for our family Christmas. I also make the "crack" cracker candy/cookies ... however, I use cinnamon grahams and top the toffee and chocolate with chopped pecans and few crystals of course sea salt ... too over the top & YUMMY!

I pray you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and will embark upon a most blessed New Year.

    In Christ,

    Mrs.B

  12. I didn't cook Christmas dinner this week but I have been baking all week. I actually just finished 2 loaves of Snickerdoodle Bread.

Happy New Year to you and your family.
