Spring organizing, free stuff, family, a little gardening and CVS

I haven't blogged in 2 weeks because it has just been busy here.
One of my April goals was to organize and clean out a few problem spots.
I'm so happy all the grands clothes have been switched from cold weather to warm weather things.
Also, the changing table with its mish-mash of storage baskets was bugging me.  I remembered the set of plastic ones in the attic and they fit fine.
Not Pinterest Worthy but I'm a lot happier with similar storage tubs and it cost no money.
The top row holds clothes for the 11 month old and socks for all grands.
The bottom row is for the two 3 year old grandsons.
All the other clothes are in the closet.

The hall linen closet was also a mess.....
Below is the pile of sheets that were on the empty shelf.

Once everything was sorted and folded neatly, it fits and looks much better.
A few things are being passed on and the toys were put in the toy room closet.

My husband saw some ground work happening near our home and they were loading up nice dirt to haul off.  He went over and asked about it.  The driver offered to give it to us and dumped a load right outside our back gate.
We need dirt to fill in some low spots and some can be added to our raised beds.

Granddaughter Andie thought the dirt pile was a wonderful place to play.
I'm just glad I had Tide detergent to clean her clothes afterward :)

I saw on Facebook that a nearby home had their yard sale leftovers up for grabs.  There was a coffee pot and baby toys in the pictures I was interested in but they were already gone when I got there.
But, I must be crazy, because I did bring home this giant heavy mirror.

I'll let you know if I paint it and keep it, or if I pass it on.
Did I mention it's heavy and tall

We've had plenty of needed rain this spring.
And you can see some of the low spots that will be filled with dirt soon......

Our little garden is keeping us in leaf lettuce, radishes, onions and a cauliflower so far.

Granddaughter Elizabeth brought this Sprout House here from kindergarten  and I think it is such a neat idea.
It is a paper house shape with a zipper sandwich bag taped to the back.
Inside are some bean seeds and a wet paper napkin.

I don't know how long they took to grow but you can really see the seed opening up with the roots and leaves.
Grandpa planted the little sprouts in a raised bed and we all hope they keep growing.

My main reason for the blog break is our grandchildren have been here the last 2 weeks, almost everyday, in various combinations.

They are all lots of fun but I don't do much when they are here except play with them and keep them fed with easy meals.

little boys can throw rocks and sticks into a pond for a long time and be happy the whole time

CVS
I am way behind on blogging about my CVS purchases.
Below is what I bought last Sunday morning.
After coupons and CVS coupons and bucks, I think it was about $19

and I got back a lot of CVS extracarebucks.

Today at CVS,  I planned out my list matching up coupons to the deals I liked and cut out from this weeks sales flyer

after coupons and deals and extracare bucks, the total went from $136 to $17
I did not plan to buy Charmin but Cole, my favorite CVS manager, said it is on clearance and I could buy all I want at $5 a pack.  I only took 5
The Wet and Wild mascara is a very good deal,  there were $1 in the Sunday paper last week.  It sells for $1.87 and is buy one get one free this week.

I think anyone with access to CVS can learn to do these CVS deals..  Look on Facebook for a CVS deals group.  Look on YouTube for CVS experts and the deals they do.  Also look at I Heart CVS for the CVS flyers and to read comments.
At CVS,  first get a CVS extracarecard.  Then register it on line for the Beauty Club and for the pharmacy if you fill presciptions there.  Whenever you go to CVS,  scan your card at the red Kiosk multiple times until it quits printing CVS coupons.  Also,  get the CVS app on an Apple or Android device for even more CVS deals.
Sign up for CVS emails.  They have been sending me $6/$30 coupons almost weekly.
Look at the ad and match up your coupons to the CVS deals you need.
I try to buy things that are pretty much free or that offer high value extracarebucks.
It is a little complicated but it becomes easy once you figure it out.

It's a good thing we have a toilet paper stockpile because little ones can go through a roll just having a good time.

Hope you all have a good week ahead!

  3. Organizing here too. Cleaning out the attic. So much junk! Good dirt is like gold! People pay for fill around here. Wish we had a CVS nearby. Looks like they have some great deals.

    1. Jane, we are very thankful for that free dirt. It would of cost many $$$$

  4. Jess did some clothes organizing this weekend, too. Layla now has some summer things unpacked (we get boxes full of girl clothes from my sister-in-law, and in return, J shares her boy stuff for the twins).
I giggled to myself the first time I saw the pic of Jackson in the bathroom with the t.p. all over the floor. When the baby is quiet, it's usually a dangerous situation. LOL.

  5. I enjoyed seeing your organizational make overs! I've been doing the same thing around here plus getting rid of things.

How do you know how much some of the items cost that are on sale if they are not a regular item you buy? I would have never known the mascara was a good deal. Do you print out coupons from CVS or do you only get your coupons from the newspaper? And do you get extra coupons from friends and family?

    Great job!

    1. Hi Georgene, I get 2 Sunday papers and my parents get 1 so I usually have access to 3 sets. My brother also saves his coupons for me but I only see him about once a month so sometimes his have already expired but I always look through them.

Internet printables- I do print some online when they match up to deals. On the Facebook CVS groups, there is often a heads up about good coupons that will match up with sales.

About prices, some of them are in the ad. Other times, on the Facebook groups, there is chatter about prices like the Wet and Wild cosmetics this week. Sometimes, I don't know until I get to the store which products I will buy.

I have read about amazing deals that when I get to my CVS are not the same.

My advice is start small because it takes a few purchases to build up some ExtraCareBucks. I hope you can find some good deals on things you need.

  6. I am always jealous of your CVS buys. I still haven't figured out exactly how to do it.

  7. Your grandchildren are so cute- love the toilet paper thrower! lucky thing you bought more! Seriously had to get the paper on Sunday so I could get more coupons for CVS! I will get it every Sunday now. Before this we had just have been using the coupons that come with the free paper that's get thrown in our driveway I did start small just like you said last week and only did two deals. Really I will only probably do 2 deals this week too until I get more coupons built up.

  8. You have been busy! I also need to learn the CVS deals. Thank you for listing the spots to search for them. Now to get the time to do it. Your grandkids are sure growing. They would love that dirt pile to stay just that way. We are to get rain this week and week end.

  9. Rhonda, I can see why you have been so busy! LOL! My grandkids can wear me out but I would not trade that time with them for the world. You did really well on your cvs shopping. I wish we had CVS here. We do have Walgreens and they used to have great deals, but now not so much.

  10. Hi Rhonda... no words other than God bless you xx

  11. Aww your grandkids are so adorable! I would love to have all that free dirt, it looks so much better than what we get here. Ours is full of river rock which comes in handy for landscaping filler but not for digging in. Enjoy your time with the cuties! :)

  12. You certainly have been busy! You must be worn out by the end of the day after the grandkids are there all day. I know little ones take up a lot of energy!
Isn't it nice to get spaces cleaned out and organized? You did a great job on the clothes and the linen closet.
We got a CVS here a few months ago but I've never been in it! There is nothing I would buy there, really. I get name-brand TP at Meijer grocery store - it's my favorite TP. I hardly ever buy makeup; we don't drink pop; I only buy fresh, natural food; and we don't take any over-the-counter medication.
Good going on the free dirt - it's actually expensive to have a truckload delivered!

  13. It is great that you got so many good deals at CVS. I either don't have that store around here, or never noticed because I've never really looked. I know for sure it's not in either of the 2 small towns I usually shop in. I'll have to see if there is one in either Portland or Salem (Oregon) and go from there. I used to do some of that kind of thing at Walgreens, but fell out of the habit. Maybe that will be a good hobby for when my life calms down again and it would be awesome to build up a supply of those kind of items. I like useful hobbies, like canning, gardening and sewing. (My mom jokingly calls me a recreational canner because I like it so much).

I can see that you would be very tired with all of the grandkids around. Plus, your garden is way ahead of ours around here, so that means more work there, too. Both fun things to do.

  14. Please send the rain our way! We are so dry here in SC. Our granddog goes in the bathroom and noses the TP until it is all unrolled. Great fun for him I am sure. Your grandson is way cuter. :)

  15. Oh, my! I just love coming to your blog! It is always so full of good things, and I am enthralled with your ability to get such great deals at CVS. We have done a few things there that saved us a lot, but I surely don't understand it like you do. :) Your grandchildren are adorable, and it is just wonderful that you lay everything aside when they are there so you can spend time with them. I know you are the most fun grandmother! Thank you for sharing with us here, and God bless you!

  16. Hello Mrs. Rhonda

Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving such lovely comments. I have enjoyed my time catching up on your weekly activities and family happenings.
I must tell you the gardening bug has bit me and thus, I am jealous that your husbands garden is already producing. Although we have sprigs of green grass up here on the Montana prairie, we still have to much mud and as of this morning another snow! Sadly, I won't be able to get in our garden for another week or two.
Hope you and yours have a fabulous weekend!
    Blessings,
    Mrs.B
