Cooking and fun with grands

hello everyone 😄

One of my current goals is to cook all our meals and use the meal plan I recently posted.
So far, it's going fine!

January 1- I cooked the traditional foods that most all Southerners eat on New Years Day.
Black eyed peas cooked with a little onion and ham served over rice & stir fried cabbage

January 2- 2 grands came over and I thought letting them help make pizza would be good.
We don't have any premise sauce so I put a smaller than normal batch of my regular pasta sauce to simmer in a crockpot.  I ended up with 3 meal size containers of sauce to freeze for future meals and of course, some for the pizza.

The pizza crust dough was made in the bread machine,  then it was put in an oiled bag and sealed to hang out in the fridge all day.

When it was time to prepare the pizzas. I cut the dough into 2 small pieces and 1 big piece.
The grands rolled out their dough and both of them ended up with heart shape pizzas.
Then they put theirs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper - because I knew they would be messy with the toppings.

They added sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni.

I also made one large pizza with the rest of the dough.

See why lining their sheet was important?  It sure saved me lots of aggravation and scrubbing.

The pizzas were delicious.  On the side, we had fresh mandarins and Oreos.

They were so good, husband and I had the leftovers for supper tonight on January 3rs.

All of the grands that are old enough to, love to craft.  On this sleepover, they each painted a $1 kit of 2 sun catchers  from Dollar Tree.
We also did some Perler beads.

This supplement is always in our Sunday newspaper and I think cover is the best one ever,
Throw kindness around like confetti

  1. Keep us posted how the meal plan goes. I love that you let the grands make their own pizzas and really love that you are wise enough to put it on parchment!

  2. What a fun grandma you are, Rhonda! I forgot that we used to let the boys make pizzas too. Wish I had thought of the parchment paper back then!

    1. I try to be fun, but sometimes I get grumpy, like when these 2 were still giggling at 930pm and they should been asleep,

  3. Smart move with the parchment paper! It is fun to let kids in the kitchen, but boy, oh boy can it be messy. :)

    1. Yes, kiddos can be very messy. But this time it wasn't too bad with the parchment under theirs, I didn't use it on the big pizza because I put in the sauce and cheese in it (carefully) and the kiddos only helped with the Pepperonis on it.

  4. They look like they are having so much fun in the kitchen. I remember when my Mom used to buy those pizza kits out of the store. We had a ball doing that. I will have to remember this!

    1. Yes Vickie, homemade pizza is a frugal and kid friendly meal and I think all kiddos would like to make their own.

  5. YOu are a genius with the idea of lining the trays with parchment paper before the kids added the toppings. I will have to remember that one for the next time we have the grandkids make their own pizzas here. :)

    1. 😂 I'm not a genius, I just really dislike scrubbing pans. I'm sure your grandboys would like doing pizzas too

  6. How fun to make pizzas with the grandkids! I bet they loved rolling out the dough. Isn't parchment paper one of the best inventions? I use it on my baking sheets all the time.

  7. Happy New Year, Mrs. Rhonda -
I too need to follow your example and get back to a more organized lifestyle. The later half of 2016 found me "flying by the seat of my pants", and I wasn't nearly as productive as I usually am.
Thanks for sharing your meal planning ideas and posting photos of your adorable grandchildren making homemade pizzas - looks like all had a super fun time.
    Blessings,
    Mrs.B

  9. You are making memories. :)

We had black eyed peas (cooked in Instant Pot), rice (in rice cooker), baked ham, biscuits and smothered cabbage for New Year's Day. I meant to make some cranberry sauce to go with it as the meal was a liitle lacking in color but I didn't feel well.

    Have a beautiful week!
