hello everyone,
in the photo, my baking cabinet doesn't look that bad but it was not working for me. It was hard to get to things and that support bar in the middle has to be worked around.
the white baskets were not working on that bottom shelf. See how the sides flare out so there is quite a bit of wasted space?
At Dollar Tree, I found the 3 pack of green baskets, on the bottom shelf now, and I think they work much better.
I sorted things, and reused the white baskets on other shelves.
I put labels on everything that needed one and refilled the canisters that needed refilled.
and if your an eagle-eye for details, all 3 of these shelves have different shelf paper, not sure why, but we have lived here almost 15 years and I guess some needed replaced when others didn't
having the cabinet in order, made baking easier.
I baked a cherry pie over the weekend and put some crusts in the freezer.
the pie crust scraps get sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and baked like cookies- yum!
It blows lots of bubbles and is pretty fun for a $1 toy.
eggs, Fuji apples, a head of ice berg for tacos and sandwiches, strawberries, baby carrots
3 bags of salad mix, 1 bag spinach, little cucumbers and little tomatoes
sandwich bread, croissants for breakfast sandwiches and tortillas
whole milk, chocolate milk, half and half cream and 2 orange juice
the 4 year old requested the chocolate milk
frosted shredded mini wheat cereal- all the grand's favorite cereal
strawberry applesauce cups - 8 year old grand requested these
and diapers
a pizza that we ate for lunch for lunch after shopping and it was really good!
2 spiral hams- they were $1.19 a pound
lots of cookies - remember Grandpa and 2 grands were shopping with me
I hardly ever buy cookies but Aldi cookies are good and very low priced compared to name brand cookies at other stores.
I won't blame the chips on anyone because when I do buy chips, I usually buy about this many at Aldi. They keep a long time and they are about 1/3 the price at Aldi as other stores.
4 kinds of drinks to keep in the outside fridge and these will hold the grands for several months or more
4 new big shopping bags
and 2 little cars- for the grands who were shopping with us
you'll have to enlarge the receipt but I'm showing it if you want to check out Aldi prices. Our total was $150
that's all the cooking and shopping news from here - have a good rest of the week everyone

I had some over ripe bananas so I baked a double batch of banana pecan bread that will be served to our Easter guests.
besides the baskets at Dollar Tree, I bought this silly whale bubble machine. It runs with 3 AA batteries. Pour bubble liquid in its mouth and turn it on.
This weekend, I shopped at Aldi with my husband and 2 school age grandsons.
You all liked the commissary haul I posted last month so I took photos and here is a big Aldi haul---
the 3 pound bags of sweet potatoes were just .69, 10 pounds of russet potatoes and 2 pounds red onions
bananas and almonds for baking
4 bags of frozen veggies
the 4 year old requested the chocolate milk
strawberry applesauce cups - 8 year old grand requested these
and diapers
ketchup, mustard, precooked bacon and paper plates
lots of cookies - remember Grandpa and 2 grands were shopping with me

I love Aldi. That is a lot of groceries for $150! We love those pizzas too. Andy's parents were here last week to visit; I bought 2 Aldi pizzas to serve the first night they were here as I had been shopping that morning and I was doing as easy as possible! They really liked them. We don't buy them often but it's a great deal for a quick meal.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we've bought one of those giant pizzas since our Aldi opened about 4 years ago. But this one was so good, I will be getting them especially when I need to feed a group cheap and easy.
DeleteI've shopped at Aldi for years. Back in the day I used to buy a lot of snack food (both sweet and salty), but now they're not really part of my eating plan. Except for the frosted shredded wheat (which I never eat with milk. Instead, I like it dry and crunchy.)
ReplyDeleteThat is my grands favorite cereal and I guess they don't eat it at home so they really enjoy it here.
DeleteI'm confused (not unusual for me)....
ReplyDeleteWhy does your url have 'blogspot.co.uk' when you are quite obviously not in the UK at all?
It seems everyone has one for uk and I wonder, too.
DeleteCol, I am in the US for sure and have no idea why it says .uk for you.
DeleteHere it is ifyoudostuff.blogspot.com
with no country letters after it.
I am no internet-talk expert though
All this good food makes my mouth water! :) We've just had a beef butchered and today it was ready to bring home. My freezer almost runneth over. :) We'll give some to the girls and their families. I'm looking forward to meat that isn't filled with water.
ReplyDeleteHome raised beef is the best, I know you will enjoy it.
DeleteI know what you mean about that watered meat. Thankfully, the commissary we shop at has very good meat and neither their chicken or beef seems to be pumped full of water like the stores in town,
Great job of organizing your baking cupboard, Rhonda. I need to do that again. It doesn't stay neat and tidy for very long. Aldis is the best. All the great buys and unusual items makes grocery shopping fun. I bought a bunch of Pepridge Farm cookies at our discount grocery store for 25 cents a package. Since they were out of date, we bought one package, took them outside and tried them, then came back in and bought several more packages. Won't need to bake for quite a while! Have a blessed Easter!

Hi Jane, if you want your baking cabinet to stay straightened, just don't cook 😂
DeleteYour Pepperidge Farms deals sound wonderful. A while back our commissary had the PF fancy cookie sampler packs for a very good price, but not a quarter. I served one to some of the grands and they were so amazed by it and truly enjoy those fancy cookies with the chocolate on them. It was fun to watch them like it so much.
We did have a lovely Easter and I hope you did too.
I love to shop at Aldi's. My favorite bread from there is the Oat Bran bread. It freezes really well. I have a neighbor that taught me to put chips in the freezer to keep them longer. Your baking cabinet do over looks really nice and the cherry pie and pie crust and banana bread . . . yum yum! Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you Claudia for all the compliments. You are sweet ❤
DeleteI'll have to look for the oat bran bread. It sounds good
I am a huge fan of Aldi's also, but I have found I prefer 2 stores over the others in my area. Two of them are kept neat and clean all the time. The others tend to get a little worn and dirty fairly often
ReplyDeleteMy town only has 1 Aldi. It is busy, busy so all the stock gets turned over quickly. It is run well and always clean.
DeleteAnd it's pretty close to our home.
I love Aldi!!
ReplyDeleteAldi is so helpful for stretching that grocery money 👍
DeleteHi! May you have a nice Easter. Aldi's is where I do most my grocery shopping. It's wonderful. Time to go buy some eggs to boil and decorate.
ReplyDeleteBlessing,
dd
Thank you Deanna, we did have a lovely Easter and I hope you did too.
DeleteMy eye is on the bubble blower -I have to see if our Dollar tree has one!
ReplyDeleteGreat deals you got at Aldi's! Your ready for a crowd. Have a great Easter!
Hi Vicki, I hope you find a bubble machine for your grands. They are fun
DeleteWe did have a crowd for Easter, 20 I think 😍
Your grocery haul is impressive! I love Aldi pizzas!
ReplyDeleteThe little fellow is adorable. Look how happy a single dollar made him!
Blessings
Thank you Cheryl. He still is liking the bubble blower, 2 weeks later ❤
DeleteOh that Bubble BLower is so cute...I need to find one for our grandkids too! You did really well on your groceries!
ReplyDeleteI hope you find one. My little store had a bunch of them but I hear they sold out fast.
