November #5 getting ready for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving 2020 will be different this year.  I’m cooking some of the same foods and leaving others off as I won’t be feeding nearly as many as usual.
We will do a porch food swap with one of our children- he’s bringing cheeseball and pumpkin tiramisu and I’ll give him deviled eggs and mini pies.
My parents are sequestered in their apartment.  They are being extra careful as there have been Covid cases in their building.  We will send a meal up to them via the bucket and rope  on their balcony.

Since we are already enjoying our Christmas tree,  I never got out fall decorations.  I looked through them this morning and was happy to find  leftover paper goods from last year

This is my simple menu plan

πŸ₯§πŸ₯§πŸ₯§πŸ¦ƒπŸ¦ƒπŸ¦ƒπŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ«’πŸ«’πŸ«’πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§ˆπŸ§ˆπŸ§ˆπŸ₯šπŸ₯šπŸ₯šπŸ½πŸ½πŸ½πŸ«–πŸ«–πŸ«–
I gathered up some of the ingredients to make sure I have what I was planning - fresh/frozen stuff is still in the fridge.
The turkey is thawing in the sink covered with water.
The only 2 time consuming dishes to prepare are the pie crusts and deviled eggs.
So, I made the pie crusts this morning and they are now in the freezer waiting for Thursday morning.  Then I’ll thaw them and fill them and bake.
My pie crusts taste good but I’m afraid no matter how I try,  my crusts just  look primitive.

Happy Thanksgiving to all πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈAmericans,  however your holiday looks this year.

I’d love to hear how you’re doing Thanksgiving in 2020

❤️ Rhonda

  1. I just realized I did not have the ingredients for a cheese ball must put that on the list. You just reminded me. Thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. I never judge a pie by how it looks unless I say it looks delicious.

  3. I think your crusts look fine. It's not easy forming crusts into muffin tins and small pie pans. After you get the fillings in, no one will notice them anyway. They'll be too busy gobbling them up! I know they will be delicious! I like your cut-outs too.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. This year it will be just TheHub and I. Quite a deviation form the norm but there is nothing normal about this year.
Sending the food to your folks via a rope and bucket is a brilliant idea!

  5. I love the handmade look of your piecrusts. Perfection doesn't taste nearly so good as loving hands. :-)

  6. We won't be going to my sisters. She normally has about 30 but cutting back this year. Jaymee was positive and Wednesday will be her 2 weeks but then health department says Teigan has to be in until 12-6. I will cook for us 3 and then do them a porch drop of all. Sure missing Teigan! I have talked with her from about 10 ft from door but isn't the same. November5th last time she was here. I normally have my tree up by now but she wants to help so.....

Happy Thanksgiving Rhonda to you and your family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. We are going to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with my husband's brother and his family. It's been years since we've been to Florida, so I am looking forward to the warmer temperatures and seeing the ocean. I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  8. It's just me and my husband at home this year. We were going to go to my mom's and be joined by my aunt and uncle, but we all cancelled. My aunt and uncle both have multiple underlying conditions and we haven't seen them since Labor Day. Just not worth the risk.

We found a small turkey breast at Trader Joe's that has stuffing in the middle and is wrapped in phyllo dough. So we're having that, plus mashed potatoes and gravy, a corn casserole with bourbon (recipe found in a magazine), Brussels sprouts with pecans, maybe some roasted carrots with thyme and maple syrup, and homemade cranberry orange relish. Also a maybe: some kind of healthy-ish pumpkin dessert. We both are quitting processed sugar again, so I'm looking for a pumpkin dessert made with pure maple syrup. I know this is all a lot of cooking to do just for two people, but we love leftovers, especially T'giving ones!

May you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving.

  9. I never have pretty pie crusts, but always have good pie!

We're having the kids and grandkids, but we'll all be masked except when we're eating. I'm setting up distanced tables around the living/dining room. Maybe overkill, but the kids went for their visitation weekend last week and we just don't know who they were around.

Layla is here today, and we're staying far apart, unless we both have masks on.
