Blogidays December 7 - cream cheese filled peaches

Hello everyone,  I had no idea so many of you would ask for the “recipe” for the peaches I mentioned.
I first made them when I was in high school for a supper when my grandmother and her friend Aunt Susan arrived at our home for a visit.  I think the recipe was from a Betty Crocker set of recipes cards that my mom got my subscription every month.  

Anyway,  there’s not much of a recipe that I go by anymore.  You can use however many peach halves and how much cream cheese you need for who you’re serving. 
I used softened cream cheese mixed with finely diced pecans, a little vanilla and a little powdered sugar to taste.  Then put a rounded tablespoon of cream cheese each peach half.  Then chill them until it’s time to serve them.  

I did find this YouTube video where she makes them and it’s pretty much how I do except I think she uses a pastry bag to pipe the cream cheese into the peach halves.  




Heidi, this YouTuber, uses 2 large can of peaches (28 ounce or so), 8 ounces of cream cheese and 1/4 c powdered sugar.  
About 1/3 cup finely diced pecans is what I would use for this amount.  

Canned Peach halves are kind of hard to find nowadays.  They were so popular when I was growing up.  I always liked when the school cafeteria had peach halves.  
Do any of y’all remember eating them?  

Anyway,  this is an easy dessert or salad that  can be made ahead and most everyone will like it.  
Granddaughter Elizabeth especially likes it 🥰

  1. Those look yummy. I canned peaches 1/2's every year when mom was alive. She loved peaches and cottage cheese.

  2. The peach halves and cream cheese looks so delicious. I used to buy sliced peaches and never searched much for peach halves, though I will now.

    When I was a little girl my Mom canned peach halves, and tomatoes, and grape jelly from small wild grapes, and also from grapes from our grape vines, plus she preserved sliced pears. They looked like jars of jewels on the wooden shelves in the basement where they were stored. This was during the Duck and Cover from nuclear weapons time. I remembered thinking Mom, Dad and I would just live in our basement and hide from the bomb and live on Mom's preserved peaches, grape jelly and sliced pears. In my mind we would hide under the stairs and sleep under my Dad's great huge heavy duty work bench. As a child, I thought we could hide from radiation.

  4. I will have to look for canned peach halves. I don't buy canned fruit usually, but the boys have had it in school lunches, so sometimes I get peach slices for them. I think they'd like this recipe. Who doesn't like sweetened cream cheese? Lol.

  5. Rhonda, just wanted to say than you for the daily posts. I love them and look for them---such a day brightener. Feels like a friend popped over for coffee and a chat.

    Mom and I always canned peach halves as well. How well I remember the jars on the wooden shelves in the basement. We ate them as-is, or with a dollop of cottage cheese in the middle. Sweetened cream cheese sounds divine!

  7. My mom would chop up the peaches add the cream cheese and pecans and serve it on cinnamon bread. She would cut it into squares with the crusts cut off. I thought this was so special and elegant. It was also delicious. 🙂
