Soup and celebrations

Hello everyone
I made a delicous batch of soup last week, inspired by a soup recipe from an old blog that is no longer being updated.

I followed the recipe except I didn’t add the beans and for seasoning,  I used just a little sage and thyme.
It was such a good soup!

For the last 6 or 7 years,  we started taking a trip for our wedding anniversary and they were usually to the San Diego area or Branson, Missouri.
In March if 2020 was our 40th wedding anniversary- you all know what became of celebrations then.
This week was our 41st anniversary.  With my husband’s surgery,  trips aren’t possible now but he tried to make our day very special.
I woke up and saw this huge happy anniversary sign in our front yard

My husband thought he asked 1 of our children to arrange for a flower delivery but he actually asked 2 children so.....

2 huge floral arrangements were delivered.
They are both so pretty and it smells like a florist in our home.

Ducky spent last week at our favorite kennel/doggie day camp
He had a great week playing with so many other dogs.
He is home now and so tired from his busy week and also so happy to nap beside Jeff.

I hope that photo doesn’t gross anyone out too much.  We think it looks bad but we checked with the doctor and they think it’s OK.

This was actually Jeff’s 4th knee replacement surgery.  His other knee had lots of problems and it took 3 surgeries to get it OK.
So we are really hoping this knee will be a one and done situation.

Hope you are all fine.
It’s been raining buckets here for about 16 hours and I’m glad today is a stay at home day.
❤️ Rhonda

  1. I just had my 2nd knee replaced 7 weeks ago ......first one 3 months ago. What a life changer! I had a lot more bruising with the second surgery...entire leg. Looks like he had the glue and mesh like I did instead of the staples. Hope he does well......what a game changer in mobility having 2 good knees after procrastinating 20 years. So happy! Looking back...the first three weeks are sort of hard, but nothing that can’t be handled and I was all alone as no family with each surgery! Enjoy your blog, but not much of a commenter.

  8. Wow - that's an incision. I remember when my dad had his kidney removed when they first diagnosed his cancer. (They thought they got it all, but, alas...) Anyway, for whatever reason I thought he'd had laparoscopic surgery, so when I saw his 10" incision for the first time, my face must've been "OH", because he immediately asked for a mirror. Lol.

Happy Anniversary to you and Jeff! What special treats he arranged for you. Your kids did good with the flowers.

This past week we had some high winds for a few days that left us with light brown and red dirt on everything. The prettiest frost patterns in the dust on the patio table one morning had me grabbing my phone for a photo. Then I realized that was not Nebraska dirt. Later I heard on the news that a little bit of Oklahoma got blown up here!
It's all washed away now by a few days of constant rain. Sounds like we have the same weather pattern.

  10. Happy anniversary! I love the big sign that your hubby had delivered and your flowers are beautiful.

Owww on Jeff's knee. I have quite a few friends and my aunt that have had knee replacement surgery, and I've heard it's quite horrendous. I had laparoscopic meniscus surgery a few years ago and even that was a quite long and painful recovery. One of my biggest fears is complete knee replacement. I hope that Jeff is doing well with his recovery and not in too much pain.

That cabbage and potato soup looks wonderful. Going to pin the recipe. Like you, I wouldn't add the beans.

    Have a good week!

  11. Both my boys have scars from knee surgery...For all that I was in the medical field looking at wounds is my least favorite thing, lol, which is why I did billing and not nursing! So glad that Jeff is recovering and glad that you two had a lovely anniversary despite the circumstances. I hope you get to travel soon...You've got two anniversary trips to make up!

  12. Happy anniversary!
Hope that knee heals up real good.
I love that kind of soup - it always tastes so much better than the recipe sounds. I wonder how Lena and her family are doing. It was sad to see her stop blogging, but completely understandable. God bless them!
