Winner, Winner, Turkey Dinner










It started raining last night and rained most of today so I didn’t do any yard work today.  




There has been a big turkey in our freezer since before Thanksgiving.  It wasn’t needed for Thanksgiving as our son brought turkeys he cooked. 
We are also out of frozen chicken broth.  
So I thought I would thaw out that turkey and make broth with part of it.  

So I cut it up and have the back, neck and wings cooking in this large crockpot for broth,  





The legs and thighs are in the fridge for now.  


I sealed  the breast in foil and baked it, low and slow- and it turned out so good! 

We had turkey with sides for supper 


And I guess we will be having several more turkey meals but that’s ok with me.  
I’ll probably make more broth with the legs -or  “bone broth” as the cool homemakers call it these days. 

Turkey 🦃 anyone?

  1. I love turkey but only the breast. However, I do need the flavor of other parts for broth and tasty dishes. The neck is the tastiest. I just finished a turkey breast that was cooked last year.

  2. Back when our boys were young we had turkey a couple of times a month. It was one of the cheapest meats to buy, I think around 39 cents a pound back then. It still isn't much more than that if you buy and freeze them when they go on sale at Thanksgiving time.There's so many ways to use it. We usually made the dark meat into burritos and taco meat or barbecue sandwiches. Turkey's not just for Thanksgiving!

    1. I’m not crazy about dark meat, so I messed up all the dark meat and put it in bags. My daughter said they loved turkey soup so they will be having turkey soup with the dark meat
      And broth of course

    1. I don’t stress about cooking turkey. I seal it up so it stays moist. This time the pan was lined with foil, and I put foil on the top and sealed it all around the edges. Then I baked it at 3:50 for an hour, then I turned it down and baked it 300 for maybe 2 1/2 more hours. As long as it is sealed up, it will stay moist.
      And this turkey was moist, and delicious!

  5. Mmm, looks and sounds good, Rhonda. Think I’ll do that, too.
    We live north of Tulsa, so we got similar rain, wind, etc. Looks like good weather this week.

  7. Thanksgiving is Greg's favorite holiday and favorite meal. He's happy to have turkey dinner any time of year! I was able to snag a 15 lb. bird right before Christmas at only 50 cents/lb. I don't know if he'll leave it in the freezer until Thanksgiving, though!
