This tree and flower bed is in our front yard. I planted the jonquil and tulip bulbs in the fall and am glad they survived our unusually cold winter. There are also iris bulbs that will bloom soon and 3 hydrangea bushes with lots of green leaves.
This tree has red leaves and is blooming with little pink flowers. It is really pretty and I have not seen one anywhere else in my neighborhood or town.
We did not plant it, it was planted by the first family that lived in this house, around 2000.
I hope someone out there knows what kind of tree this is.
I would really like to know its name.

ReplyDeleteMy mom had this tree in our side yard growing up and then years later I bought one ...I believe it is called a flowering plum. I bought mine about 15 yrs ago, so I hesitated on the name. I googled it and I believe it is accurate.

When I was a kid our neighbor had a row of these across the front of her house. They were always so pretty in Spring. She called them flowering plums also. Really pretty garden spot you have.

Hi Rhonda! My dad was a wholesale tree farmer in OKC for years & years. He said it is actually really tricky to identify trees by photographs but it looks most like a Purple Plum. It could also be a Crabapple but there are SO MANY varieties: Thunderchild, Royalty, Prairie Fire are possibilities.

Purple leaf plum was the first thing that popped in my head! You could google that and see if it looks like it. Beautiful!
