Frugal February and thrift store Saturday

One thrift store visit this morning---
The Valentine stickers were 90% off so just 5 cents for both sheets.
My husband liked the $2 crystal frame.
The wood plaque was $1 and was something I was looking for so I can make a version of a Pinterest pin.

Remember last week I bought all that Farberware for a song?
I thought this big covered skillet was Farberware, but when I washed it and saw the marks, it is really that waterless cookware that used to be so popular. It is also very expensive. When I looked last week on EBay, there were a numbers of listings for waterless cookware but only one cover 12.5 inch skillet. And it was $299!  I have shopped at thrift stores and yard sales for a long time but this is the best deal I have ever come across.
I am cooking in it for the first time tonight and it cooks so nicely too.

My husband is having eye surgery soon and he had a prescription for Vigamox eye drops. With his insurance, at CVS, his cost $20.
A relative just came down with a corneal ulcer, from wearing contact lenses too long. That relative also got a prescription for the same Vigamox and filled it at a locally owned drug store. That relative has a different employer but the same medical insurance.  Unfortunately, that prescription cost $110.
The prescriptions were filled 9 days apart.
Needless to say, that relative will be going to CVS is future prescriptions are needed.

Frugal tip- pharmacies are not all the same. Ask others, call about prices, asked for generics- hopefully you won't pay $90 more the same tiny bottle of eye drops.

  2. I just love that you're there cooking in a $300 skillet! Wow! It is just so true that you never know what you can find at the thrift store! A friend and I were commenting the other day that you could furnish your whole house with thrift store items...toys, kitchen stuff, furniture, clothes...it might take a while, but eventually, it could be done. It would be fun to start out as a teenage girl and put away good finds for your future home, wouldn't it?

I agree about the prescriptions...with my boys on a few all the time, we've found the prices vary at an incredible amount!

  3. I had never heard of that cookware so I looked it up - wow! It has great ratings and yes, it's very expensive. What a lucky score!

  4. You got some awesome finds today, good for you! I work in a pharmacy and I have to say that first of all pharmacy's are all different in prices. The one that I work in is locally owned and if you were to come to us we would give you a great cash price if you don't have insurance. IF you have insurance, it shouldn't matter where you go the prices should all be the same. But it also depends on where the pharmacy purchases their drugs from, ie if they can get a good deal or not. If they get a great deal, then they can pass it on to you, if you do not have insurance. Also, meds are skyrocketing in price like crazy. What you get filled today might cost you $100 more next month, even with insurance. I feel bad for people that can't afford their meds even with insurance, they just go without which is so sad.

  5. I don't know if you have a Publix grocery store in your area but some of their drugs are FREE, crazy but cool right! Super deals you picked up today, it's like Christmas. Can't wait to see what your Pintrest project is.

    1. Good deals are like Christmas gifts, Debby. :)
      No Publix in Oklahoma, sadly...

  6. What a great score on the cookware. I've been to a few house parties where they have demo-ed the cookware. I'm always tempted to buy a piece but the cost is just too much. If I ever find one like you did, that would be the right price ;-)

  7. My parents had a set of stainless steel waterless cookware, so that's what I learned to cook with. I bought myself a set when I was still in high school, and still use them. Great quality and great deal - you'll enjoy your skillet.

    1. Selling it on EBay was my husbands idea too, but I will enjoy cooking in it.

  9. I never knew pharmacies were different prices for meds. I always thought they were the same price. I have a set of the waterless stainless steel but rarely use it - maybe I should drag it out and use it!

    1. Susan, I would of known about the pharmacy prices differences either if this had not happened.
