My husband, son and I walked through for neighborhood for the annual yard sale early Saturday. It was cool with a light breeze so it was a pleasant morning. We found a few treasures......
4 big hard back books by Mary Alice Jones. 25 cents each. I remember reading many books by Jones when I was a child. Her messages are so sweet and
The illustrations are pretty and calming, I think.
My son bought this big old metal piece. It is not as big as a turkey roaster but close. He thought he might put several potted plants in it.
Sippy and snack cups- all 25 cents each. These are all in great condition and sell new for about $4 each so I am happy to have them.
Funny Erma Bombeck paperbacks.....
2 sets of pajamas and a pair of kitchen towels - all 25 cents
A very nice big board book for 25 cents
And a Justin Wilson cookbook for 25 cents. Justin Wilson was a Cajun cook on PBS years ago. My dad and brother were just talking about him at last weekends yard sales and hoping they would find one of his books. Now, they will be happy to read this one!

Not pictured- I also got some plastic drinking glasses from a free box and 3 jars- 1 is 2 quart and the other 2 are 1 quart for 25 cents each. I store pantry items in glass jars and when I was trying to put something away Friday, I did not have an empty jar for this new ingredient so I am really glad to get a few more jars.
2 other nice areas in our town are having neighborhood yard sales today but we are going to skip them.
Tell me if you found any second hand treasures :)
And as Justin would say,"oooh oooh wee" you got some good bargains! Heehee- can you tell how old I am? : ) Angela
ReplyDeleteAngela, :) I am guessing you are my age or so. I knew younger people wouldn't have a clue about Justin or how fun he was to watch.
DeleteWhat a neat idea with using the old tin for planting:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Danielle, my son has some great ideas.
DeleteOh, that's weird...I was just thinking about Justin Wilson the other day...the first time in years and years and here is his book on your post! haha.
ReplyDeleteYou got some great things. That little pea pod on the towel is so sweet!
That is weird, Betsy. I guess you were just in a Cajun state of mind. I had not thought about him years, until my dad and brother mentioned him.
DeleteWe went to a small town about 20 minutes away for their annual garage sale day. There were 50+ sales and I think we at least drove past all of them. Our best scores were some big trucks for outside play, and an assortment of nice Star Wars toys.
ReplyDeleteGo You!!!! Love the childrens books you found and sippy cups!!! We can never have to many sippy cups!!
ReplyDeleteErma Bombeck is soo funny! Those will be a good read! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember reading those children's books when I was little. My husband still has his 10 commandments book from when he was little, a treasure that will one day be passed down. I used to love to watch Justin Wilson on the PBS channel every Saturday afternoon, my sister has an autographed copy of one his books, my great aunt who lived in Louisiana sent to her. It's the one cookbook, she refuses to get rid of.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds and what a fun thing to have in your neighborhood. I sometimes do the Justin Wilson "OOOHHHH EEEEE" and "just a little bit" when adding wine to a dish...lol. He was fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my book blog. It was the name of the title but life did a little bit of falling to pieces which you can see on my handwork or house and garden blogs. We have had a sad time lately.
Tomorrow it will be busy and fun though as my cousin is coming over to Holland for the first time with her husband. It should be lots of fun and we have tons we want to show them.
Hugs from Holland,
Heidi
P.S. - How is your mom? Give her a big hello from me!
Rhonda--
ReplyDeleteWhat a great advantage you have with a neighborhood yard sale. We have to drive quite a ways to find a neighborhood that has one of these! But, when time and money allows- I certainly don't mind spending the afternoon or morning that way!
You found some great deals. Baby clothes and those cups will sure come in handy with the Littles. (I like the cups with the soft tops on them for small treats)
Erma is good for a laugh and Justin Wilson is too.
I have a similar enamel pan...I had flowers in it last year... still may be time to get some blooming in there. Though I've not done it yet.
Yard sales are fun...especially when the hubby is on board!
Pat
Hi Pat, yes yard sales are fun and they really are better when several of us go as we often point out something to the other, that they might want but did not see.
DeleteMy town is not huge but there are several neighborhoods that have sales at the same time. I like them best, not the kind you have drive all over for.
