May#3

Good evening
I worked in our front flower beds this morning- it’s been on my to do list for weeks and today was perfect, the outside temperature was perfect.

My tools
The garden kneeler is so handy- you can kneel on it and then use the side supports to help stand back up or it can be flipped over and sat on.
I pulled weeds and moved a few plants and dug up some plants that weren’t doing good.

The front of our home on one side
And the flower bed on the other side

My husband is responsible for planting most everything.  His method is he buys things at Lowe’s or Atwoods that catch his eye,
and then he plants a little here and a little there.
Right now, the dianthus, rhododendrons, pansies, 1 iris and mock orange bushes are blooming.
Soon the red lilies will be blooming and so will these peonies and rose bush- both are loaded with buds.

While I was weeding,  I uncovered some of last year’s Purple Heart coming back to life.

Supper was  boneless pork chops baked with ShakeNBake for pork and they were delicious, green beans and little potatoes, that baked along side the pork chops.

And this little guy had a snow cone at his brother’s t-ball game.
It apparently had plenty of blue food coloring in it

  1. Flower beds look so pretty. Haven't planted a thing here yet - still too iffy and wet. You both did a good job.

  2. Josh was allowed a purchase of a snack two weeks ago on Saturday for doing well in behavior at school. He brought to my house a big bag of red hot cheetos and a bag of cheese puffs for his little brother and sister. They thoroughly enjoyed them. At some point Isaac went into the bathroom and came out saying "Josh, my tongue is RED!" I guess it was two days later before I walked into that guest room and there on the counter top in one corner was a perfect little Isaac handprint in Cheeto orange/red color on the counter where he'd apparently leaned from the toilet to see his tongue in the mirror, lol!

Rhonda the beds are so pretty. I should try Jeff's method, just buy what I like and plant a bit here and another bit there. It all looks lovely!
I came very near dumping out a pot that had plumbago in it last year and am so glad I didn't. I checked it last part of last week planning to move it and the plant was coming back. That Purple heart does well here in Georgia, too. I'll have to look for some of that.

  3. I need one of those kneeling things! How handy that would be to not kill your knees and have a hand getting back up.
You husband has a good eye on pretty plants. They are looking good. Is the mock orange a tree?

  6. I didn't know they still sold Shake N Bake. My mom loved that and when teaching me to cook, she had me use it often. I cannot think of it without hearing that little girl with a big southern accent saying, "And I helped!". Lol.

I have purchased some plants, but it's getting chilly here again for the next several days (Wyatt's graduation weekend will be cold and rainy), but then temps in the 70s for the foreseeable future after that, and I'll be gardening then. Jeff's flowerbeds are really pretty and I love when they're random. I think they look more natural.

I do not understand the appeal of the blue snow cones, slushies, etc., but kids love them. Perhaps it's because of the color of their tongues after?

  7. Rhonda, your home and gardens are beautiful! It's been cold and rainy here for the past two weeks so I haven't had opportunity to get out and do anything. It's May in New York! lol
