Yesterday was a quilt show with family quilts that belong to residents and quilts made by residents. It was fun to see so many quilts in one place.

It's hard to see in this photo but on the right is a table holding 3 Husqavarna machines. The daughter of a resident owns a sewing shop and she demonstrated some state of the art machines.
I helped make this quilt many years ago- the animals are appliqued and then I added embroidery. We made 5 of these baby quilts and they were a joint project of my mom, grandmother and me.

I visited with the maker - turns out her son in law is my son in law's barber.
Our town has a population of about 50000 with 20000 more college students. It has a small town feel to it, and we all seem to know each other or know each other's family.

Your mom sure is talented. And so are the others. There's a lot of beautiful quilts and the show. I love the quilt and the story behind the baby quilt. What a nice memory!

Hi Jane, thank you! Yes my mom is very talented as most every woman in my family. All the women before were prolific with needles and thread.
DeleteThe 5 baby quilts were my grandmothers idea. She had 5 grandchildren and wanted to make 5 baby quilts for their future children, But my brothers and 1 of my cousins are all bachelors who never had children so some the quilts have yet to be used.
I'm not sure you can say I have the patience of a quilter, but I did enjoy the tour. I especially enjoy those embroidered quilts! Thanks for letting us see them!

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the quilt show with your readers. Although I am an armature quilter, I do love quilts. As a matter of fact, my sister and I plan to, someday, take a "vacation' to some Amish communities specifically to enjoy the QUILTS! Also, when attending county fairs, etc., the quilt displays are the first ones we visit.
