my kitchen assistants

Up until today, Gavin and Elizabeth have only ate food from my kitchen.
They are getting bigger, so today,
they learned how to make a family favorite,
salad crackers.
My grandmother made these at least 30 years ago. I know it was then because son Bobby ate them when he was a toddler and he is 30.
We have been eating them ever since.
Salad crackers are oyster/soup crackers moistened with salad oil so the seasoning mixture of dill, onion and garlic powder, and dry ranch dressing mix will stick.

The grandbabies had fun making and eating them.
And just a few crackers flew out of the bowl onto the floor.

salad crackers are popular with everyone in this family.
We all like them on top of salad instead of croutons. I think most recipes for these seasoned crackers call for 1 or 2 bags of crackers but I always make a big batch of 4 bags.
This makes a lot but they won't last long here,
especially since we have 2 more salad cracker fans.

  1. They're kind of addicting, aren't they? I haven't had those in years!

Your helpers are adorable! And Gavin has a big boy haircut!

  2. Oh I just put a cracker recipe on the other day that uses ranch mix and crushed pepper flakes and canola oil. Love them. Those babies are precious!

  3. You have the cutest little helpers around. They are getting so big and are just adorable. Love those crackers, could go for some right now. xoxox

  4. Those crackers sound delicious and will be even more delicious having those little hands help make them.

  5. How fun to be cooking with your grand babies! You are starting Elizabeth out right, she will end up being a good cook like her grandma! Gavin may end up loving to cook too, and that could be a really nice for his family!
    Hugs, Cindy

  6. Hi Rhonda,
How cute. Maybe they will be on Food Network someday. :)
    Have a wonderful week end.

  7. Have never seen cuter cooks and they are carrying on a family tradition as both guys and gals cooked in my family...so anxious yo see those TWO! Great RoRo

  8. I have this recipe, too! Brian and Tim love them. They simply eat them as a snack. They're good on top of tomato soup, too.

  9. Cute!!!
Never heard of those down here.

  10. Just found your blog through the comment you left on my blog...so lovely! I especially liked your header (about getting stuff done heehee).

Thanks again for visiting me. I'll be sure and come back to yours since I just added you to my google reader!

Thank you for dropping by today ❤️
