I didn’t mean to let a whole week go by without blogging, but I guess that’s what happened
Last week was kind of a shopping week. For me anyway, it was a lot of shopping.
once again, here is an AFTER photo of my newly organized pantry.
Before this photo, the canned goods were not sorted. So the first thing I did was sort and count all of the items
I was really surprised to find out we had no canned fruit of any kind except for two cans that were in the refrigerator.
And we had no refried beans. Sometimes I make homemade refried beans, but it’s nice to have them in the pantry.
these photos are not in the order of my shopping, but I’m just going to leave them in this order and y’all are smart enough to figure out what I did.
The shelf stable cream is a new item.
The strawberry cream savers are my granddaughter’s favorite candy, they are hard to find, and she was very excited to see these. She said she had never seen them in a roll, they are usually in a bag.

This is the back of the cream container.
It does contain carrageenan. It is an ingredient that adversely affects some people
I am a fan of shelf-stable milk. I’ve kept it in my pantry for years.
It was so nice to have it when my grandchildren were little and liked milk in their sippy cups. if we ran out of fresh milk and I couldn’t get to the store, there was usually some shelf stable milk from Dollar tree in our pantry back then.
I do remember one of my grandchildren suspiciously, eyeing that shelf stable box when I filled their cup. But then they tasted it and realized it tasted just like the fresh milk.

My husband went with me to Aldi
I especially wanted to stock up on canned fruit and refried beans.
Canned foods are not as popular as they used to be. I remember when we first started shopping at Aldi, maybe a dozen years ago or so.
Back then, the canned food aisle was huge.
Now the canned foods are just part of one side of a aisle
But we did buy canned peaches and mandarin oranges and refried beans and tomato paste. This is part of what we bought. The perishables had already been away.
The box only weighed 3.5 ounces and the cookies were not much thicker than a potato chip
But they are very flavorful and I do recommend them if you want a small butt yummy dessert

OK now more about some of the shopping I did over the last week.
My daughter told me about a Walmart on her side of town. She stopped there on her way to work and she said they had Christmas marked down to 90%.
I was already up and dressed, and I wasn’t busy so I drove over there.
I didn’t buy much, but I did buy these gingerbread house kits
We are hoping to have a family Valentine party and decorate gingerbread houses like a Valentine village
I also found a few toys that were 90% off.. My grandkids are pretty much too old for all of these, but I got them thinking about putting them in the shoeboxes for next Christmas or any other need for toys that might come up

Another day I made goulash with some cooked hamburger from the freezer And I used up a can of tomatoes that we opened by mistake and had to be put in the fridge for a few days.
I didn’t take any photos, but I also shopped at Hobby lobby. My daughter wanted the New Year’s decorations that were marked down 90% off.
pretty much since 2020, I have done the majority of my shopping online, I’ve done Walmart pick up. I’ve done Walmart delivery and I really enjoyed Kroger delivery. Sadly, for Oklahoma, Kroger is going to stop their delivery service for Oklahoma at the end of January
So I may have to go back to more grocery shopping in person. What I discovered during all of this shopping though was, I don’t really like shopping anymore.
While we shopped at Aldi, I did look at their produce, and I was pleased with how nice most of it looked.
So I may go in there and get my produce once a week and then maybe do Walmart pick up for the rest of the stuff.
I don’t know. 🤷🏻♀️
I have been cooking and that fridge and freezer inventory I did earlier this month have certainly been useful.
One night I made fajitas with cooked roast beef strips from the freezer
Those turned out so good! There was enough here for two mealshope you are all having a very good week
❤️ Rhonda
I so need to clean my pantry. There is no Aldi here and Sissie really misses it.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like shopping either. I don't like driving so that is part of it. But, I am glad if someone goes with me and I don't have to shop by my self.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea to make gingerbread houses for a Valentine's party. Sounds fun!
Hi.. your pantry looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteftm
I don't like shopping either. I do try and get in and out as quickly as possible. Sometimes though I meet an old friend and they want to visit. I think I need to learn how to hide.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We do not have a Kroger less than 90 minutes from us. I'm finding I'm not liking shopping either.
ReplyDeleteOver Christmas my in laws were telling us that Kroger is going to stop delivery in Florida. They said many in their retirement community used the service.
ReplyDeleteYes Wendy, our notices from Kroger said delivery would stop to Oklahoma and Florida 1/30/26. I can imagine that grocery delivery in a retirement area would be very appreciated, especially if they were as good as Kroger has always been to us.
DeleteMy mother lives in assisted living uses Walmart for household and personal items. She is thankful for it but it isn’t as good as Kroger, in my opinion.
My husband drinks almond milk, and buys Costco-sized cases of the shelf-stable variety.
ReplyDeleteRhonda, I did some stocking up this week with a Kroger Sale. Let's just say I won't need to buy waffles or any bread for a while :) I wish we had an Aldi here, but the closest one is almost two hours away. Your meals look delicious!
ReplyDeleteKroger sales can be so good! I can relate, I won’t need breakfast sausage or cheese for a while because of Kroger sales,
DeleteHi there - good to see you post. I really like Aldi. For me it is usually shop Kroger or Aldi. I am not a WM fan, and only use it for cat supplies.
ReplyDeleteMy town- about 50000 population- has a Sprouts and a Homeland which I think are usually too expensive, 1 Aldi and 3 Walmarts! I am not crazy about in store Walmart shopping either.
DeleteThat is such a good idea about collecting bits now for the shoe boxes...our church make them up every year, so it would be good for me to start getting things in the sales.
ReplyDeleteLove your pantry...I could go shopping in there for a few weeks!
Thank you, I appreciate my pantry lots. Our home actually has 2 pantries. The second was a broom closet right across from the food pantry. My husband built shelves in it and we call it the junk pantry. It holds the microwave, cookbooks, medicines and just miscellaneous “junk”
DeleteI plan to buy back to school supplies when the go on sale this summer for the shoe boxes. I’ve never really filled shoeboxes. This year, my granddaughter and I went shopping in December for 2 shoeboxes. We had a great time but it was expensive. I think I can do better by purchasing a little through out the whole year.
Hi Rhonda, you got some good deals! I like looking for toy deals, as I save them for Toys 4 Tots donations at Christmas-time. I actually like grocery shopping! I like picking out the stuff I need myself, especially produce and meat. I don't mind walking the aisles, especially in winter, because I need the exercise. We have a huge grocery store less than 2 miles down the road from us now (called Woodmans). It's actually a pleasure to shop there. The aisles are wide and never crowded. And they have several ethnic aisles which are always fun to look through. Your hambuger goulash reminds me of a hamburger stew I made a few days ago in the Crockpot. It's basically hambuger, potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, garlic, tomato paste and herbs. Cooks all day and is such a comfort dish. I have a friend whose husband just got home from the hospital, so I gave her a couple of containers of it today. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie, your Woodmans sounds wonderful. There are no stores in my town that even come close to your description.
DeleteI’ve got to tell you, Jeff’s new hearing aids are really helping his tinnitus. His old ones did not but maybe the new ones have some feature that just fixes it.
I can share more details if you think Tim is interested.
Your pantry space is my dream. A couple of summers ago we set some shelving in the closet of the guest room, and that works okay. It's just the other end of the house from the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI've been making an effort to use things from the freezer - usually single serve portions of leftovers. On Mondays we have "family supper" with Jess, the kids, and Greg's mom. (Greg's dad moved to a nursing home last summer.) That's about as themed as I do for meal planning.
I used to keep a lot of canned goods in the bedrooms but we’ve since used it all. My grands had the best time playing store with all those groceries.
DeleteYour family suppers sound very nice!
I love your pantry!! Please come help me do mine! Wouldn't that be fun? I have our overflow items in the guest bedroom. I would love to have it closer to the kitchen to remember what I have. We also have an extra refrigerator in that bedroom.
