Front porch for fall and pie

Hello everyone! A cool front moved in to Oklahoma while we slept and it finally feels like Autumn.

Below is our front entryway, decorated for fall.

Below is a Pinterest photo that I used for inspiration.  Mine does not look just like it but I like the black funiture with the fall pillow and yellow mum.  I also like how simple it is.
I made the pillow from a printed fabric panel that I had in the sewing room.  (If you look back at posts about my craft room, you can see I have a huge amount of supplies, mostly from my dad's yard sale finds and my mom downsizing her stash when they moved)

Anyway, this panel was for a wall hanging but I used it make the pillow front.  I reused an old living room floor pillow for the pillow.  I used some iron on adhesive, WonderUnder, to attach it to the pillow front and then I zigzagged all the edges.

I made the rag banner across the window, also inspired by Pinterest.  My strips were about 22 by 1 inch and just rough cut by hand -not precise or straight at all.
The base was 2 lengths of jute twine,  I tied a loop on each end so they could just hang on a nail.

The $3 mum is from Walmart, repotted into a spray painted trick or treat pumpkin, $1 at Walmart.

The black chair and plantstand are from our backyard.

Grandson don't get porch decorations.  One grandson brought the sunflower pillow into the house and said "found this outside" 😂

For supper last night,  my parents, son and 2 grandsons were here.
I made soft chicken tacos with refried  beans and salad.

Dessert was a just baked pumpkin pie.

My dad ate 1 taco and 2 pieces of pie 😄

Gavin is a pie fan too.  He also had 2 pieces.

I used a new to me pumpkin pie recipe.  It has 2 tablespoons of molasses and it really adds a deep flavor.  Apparently my dad and Gavin really liked the new recipe.

Happy Fall Y'all 😄

  1. Your front porch looks really cute. Love what your grandson said about the pillow. Sounds like something my husband would say. Ha! I always make my pumpkin pie with dark brown sugar, but molasses sounds good too. I'd have two pieces too. I love pumpkin pie!

    1. I guess it is rather silly to have a pretty pillow on the front porch 😂 Your husband and my grandson are probably right and not all us Pinterest fans.
This new pie recipe was really good - the brown sugar and molasses make a darker and deeper flavor than the traditional white sugar recipe. It's not a real sweet recipe either.

  2. Just north of you in Kansas and fall is supposed to be here when we wake up tomorrow. :)

I love your front porch decor and the picture of your family enjoying their pie.

    2. Yup! That's what ushered in the MUCH cooler temperatures. It's hard to think of fall when it's in the 90's.

  3. I think your porch looks just wonderful! No fall here yet, which is fine with me. I am still swimming laps at night and will hate to have to give it up.

  5. Still want that pillow. We are getting ready for a hot summer. It's spring and the temps are up around the high 70's to mid 80's. I have rearranged the veranda and replaced a pedestal fan in preparation for more time being spent outside. Thanks for the information on what Crisco is.

    1. Hi Jane - you must be south of the equator to be starting your spring when we are starting our fall. What country are you in?

    2. Rhonda I'm on the sub tropical east coast of Australia. It's already hot and only Spring. We're about 150m from the beach. I can see a lot of swimming will be happening to get through this summer.

The rag banners are fun and easy and could be made for any holiday or room colors. You will enjoy it when you do. When we sit at our dining table, we can see this fall banner fluttering in the breeze outside.

  8. Your porch is so cute! That is a good idea to spray those orange plastic trick or treat pails. The pie sounds yummy with the molasses!

  10. Love the porch decorating! Cooler temps are here now, too, so I'll be working on my front porch this week. Probably no pillows out there, though. LOL.
Pumpkin pie sounds delicious. We're going to the pumpkin patch next Sunday and will get a pie pumpkin to bake then use to make delicious treats.
