This week's thrifty finds

This big pot was at the first sale we stopped at - just $3.
Want to see how big it is?
big enough for Gavin! He thought it was lots of fun to stand in a flower pot.
I don't know yet if I want to put plants in it or use it to hold magazines.

Nope, I did not purchase this ceramic cat. She was $1 and my son bought her, I think as a joke. She is currently sitting on the table that is the first thing you see when you come in our front door.

My oldest brother was here this weekend, he and Jimmy share the same sense of humor and he left this post-it on the cat.
Don't you wish those 2 could help you find awesome things at yard sales?

this is a big stack of fabric, I think it was $8 total - 2 are very long lengths, more than enough for dresses for me as well as shorter pieces for small projects and quilts.
We also got 56 nice childrens books for 10 cents each - except the seller only charged us $5 because she did not want to make change.

These fresh squash are not from a yard sale - my other brother grew them in his East Texas garden and sent them to us via my parents. We had a big pan of fried squash with our Sunday lunch - it was so good!

  1. good job finding that pretty blue and white pot. My husband does stuff like your son, finds weird things and then puts them in very public places for all to see. MEN!!
They think they are funny, don't they? Dont' they understand, shopping for great vintage treasures is serious business!!

  2. Very nice! I really like the cat! Your fabric is marvelous. That berry print is especially happy-looking.

We had squash from the garden this weekend, too!

  3. Ok - so don't laugh but I have a white ceramic cat similar to your that my grandmother gave me when I was little. I still have it and it's displayed along with a green ceramic frog planter someone gave me when I broke my arm the summer after 4th grade. Both not worth much even though they are probably in the age bracket of antiques (50+ years old) but they hold a lot of sentimental value for me.

What an amazing flower pot. Like you, I might use it as a magazine holder too.

  9. I love that cat! And Gavin is taking bloom where you are planted literally so to see...lol. What a deal that is. I just posted about my finds at a flea market so it must be the rummage season.

Yummy looking squash! I hope to start buying zucchini again from farms soon. It is really cheap when you can get it direct from a farm.

  11. Are you interested in selling the cat? It's just like one my sister had as a child and she would be soooooooo thrilled to have it again. My email is ososhy1232003@yahoo.com and please let me know if you are willing to sell it and for what price. (I know its bad bargaining but the truth is I would pay a lot to make my sister smile)
    thanks Sarah
