Yard sales and CVS bargains

I went to 2 neighborhood yard sales this morning with my brother and son.  We found some goodies!
These vintage Fisher Price toys were $2
Legos - 3 gallon bags and 1 sheet- $5 for all
Storage tub was $3- packed full with 3 brand new color books, some trucks, a big gator and about a dozen transformer toys
Gallon bag full of magnetic letters .50
Thomas the Train set $2
Just a few children's clothes-  assorted prices from different places, I think some were 50 cents and some were $1 - I looked at lots of clothes today, too many were stained- I only bought ones that were in excellent condition

Set of Wilton tips $1

Jar was 25 cents
Makeup bag was 25 cents
Pottery Barn children's plates were $1 each - probably my worst deal of the day but I like them and I know my grandchildren will like them too.  One of the grands is especially particular about their food not being mixed up.
Board books $1 each - both have those 3 D pictures in them that make it seem like the animals and vehicles in them are moving.  They were both like new- makes me wonder why the first owners never read them.
Pampered Chef mixing pitcher 25 cents!  I was wanting one of these as I am following the Trim Healthy Mama plan and wanted one to mix up big batches of GGMS.
Little Tikes basketball goal - 25 cents!  I was looking for one of these too and never imagined I would find a good one for such a tiny price.
My brothers pile - books, rugs, photo frames, and a CD.
My sons pile - pretty clear drinking glasses, a book, a t shirt, a leather document bag
My son got the large tray for $1
Carhart overalls for $1 - my husband said new ones retail for $90 or so.  They are in very good condition, just need laundered.

We saw lots of other good deals today that we didn't buy as we didn't need them.

I've been accumulating a discard pile and had been considering having a sale on our neighborhood-wide day.  But today's prices convinced me that I don't want too.  Yard sales are a lot of work for not much profit, at least that it how it seems in our town,
So I am pretty sure I will be donating our pile to our favorite thrift store.

CVS deals - just one trip this week
With coupons and $10 extra care bucks,  all this was $10.30.

Thank you all so much for the sweet comments about our latest grandson.  He is doing just fine and is just as sweet as he looks.
I've accomplished several jobs around my home that make life easier and me happier.
I hope to be back blogging on a regular basis soon.

    1. It was a good day to be a yard sale shopper for sure! I saw lots more great deals that I just didn't need or have room for.

  2. Oh my gosh. Great deal on the Legos for sure!!! Someone is going to be sorry some day for letting those go. My son donated his to our church for their mission down in Mexico years ago and has stated here and there that he wished he had them. So, The Dude and I bought him a box for his birthday back in April. I thought it weird to buy Legos for a 27 yo but realized that him sitting down and putting together Legos is much like me sitting down and mindlessly crocheting a granny blanket. Sometimes ya just need to chill.

I love the Pottery Barn plates and would have paid more for them. I am having a difficult time with The Dude and his portions...we just recently found out he is Border Line Diabetic. We joke about how 'healthy' he was before becoming a part of the VA.

Great deals all around. And a belated congrats on the new grandbaby.

    1. I had to reply to your comment... jill.
My son is also 27 and he and his brothers left behind a big blue tub of Legos... the grand kids play with them all the time, including his son. The thing is... HE plays with them too, when he's here and if the kids have them out... He said its' something about digging through the box and searching for the right piece and he also said, the sound of digging in a box of Legos it's just fun to him.

    2. Jilly ! So nice to hear from you, i am thrilled with all these purchases. You know, I may use those PB plates too, they are a nice melamine-melmac substance and would be perfect for portion control.

And Pat, I expect the grands dads and uncle will also play with these Legos. And I'll enjoy listening to them play, knowing what I bargain they were.m

    3. LOL, Patricia. My son said it is the 'thrill of the hunt'. I tried organizing his Legos for him years ago....it did NOT go over well, lol.

  3. I think you found some wonderful deals!
The vintage FP plane with people and accessories... I'm jealous!
    The Legos...
Thomas the train is very popular here, as are board books.
We shop the same at yard sales! ;)
    sounds like a fun day.
I'm still not doing the CVS shopping yet...but my daughter does, she'd say you got a great deal too. ;)

    1. Pat, it was truly a good day to be a buyer, some sellers just seemed to be wanting their stuff hauled off, not worrying about a profit,

  4. Amazing deals! Especially the basketball goal and Carhartt! Carhartt items are expensive, but the quality is amazing. We have a Carhartt coat that has been worn regularly for about 15 years and it is still in very good shape!

    1. Thank you! The basketball goal was something I was hoping to find, but I was hoping to pay $10 or so, never dreamed I would find one for 25 cents :)

  5. Great deals! We scored some Legos several weeks ago, and my Nick bought one of the sets and took it home. I know he put it together because he told me all of the pieces were in the box - it was a Star Wars ship. LOL.
We went to a couple of garage sales Friday afternoon and found a few things, but no awesome haul like you got.

  6. Wonderful finds. The first photo of the airplane brought back so many memories. Our oldest son had one of those and played with it for hours.

  7. You found some good deals! We had that Fisher Price airplane and set when we were little; not sure how I feel about our childhood toys now being "vintage". LOL

I saw several community sales advertised for yesterday but just wanted to stay home. And there is not much that we need at this time!

    1. Mary Ann, that vintage is a funny word, at least they aren't called antique yet.

I was not expecting to find such good stuff and probably would not of gone if my brother and son weren't here wanting to go. And then I found more stuff than they did! I certainly understand just wanting to stay home.

  9. Congratulations on your new grand baby!

You found some really good things at the garage sales and CVS.

I just discovered your blog a few weeks ago. I love reading about all of your activities and thriftyness. I've also read all of your old posts and read your former blogs. I've copied several recipes from A Home With A Smile. I noticed in one of your posts that you bought bacon in bulk and divided it into several packages. I thought I would pass along a hint I learned from my neighbor several years ago. She taught me to freeze the slices on cookies sheets and put it in a freezer bag. I can take out just as many slices as I want to cook. Since we are empty nesters now that works for us.

    1. Oh Claudia, I am so flattered you like my blogs enough to read them all. Thank you for telling me. You just made my day :). What you read is who I am, I just blog about what I do.
That is a great tip about flash freezing individual bacon slices, I will try that.

  10. yes...those carhartt overalls or a treasure to be sure. We have had the same pair as the ones you found for all 3 of our boys...as in one pair has lasted ALL of the boys and there are still no holes in them. I've looked them up on ebay and they are very pricey. I love vintage fisher price toys and legos are SOOO expensive. There was a bag at our thrift store the other day only half the size of the bag you found and it was still 9 dollars!

    1. Alyssa, I couldn't believe the low prices at this sale either. I got the Carharts and Legos at the same home and was so happy to get both. My husband sometimes wears Carharts in the winter and we know what great quality they are. I washed the $1 pair and they look good as new :)

  11. Love all your finds! Jaymee is looking for a basketball thing for Teigan. Had sales in 4 towns around here but didn't go. Allen did go get a Little Tike Climber early from one sale. Love the plates you got. I am going to have to come to OK and shop with you! WE got alittle over 5" yesterday a.m. in about 6 hours. High 90's today. Take Care!
