I made a batch of cabbage bean soup for our lunch and it was so fast to make with already having the carrots, onions and potatoes peeled and chopped.

I went to 2 thrift stores this week. I used to think our town had wonderful thrift stores.
But I’ve been in a decluttering and downsize pattern for a while now and most stuff doesn’t appeal to me anyway.
I bought these vintage magazines and 1 little jigsaw puzzle. I think my total cost was in the $3 range.
This is the vegetable chopper I used.
I bought it from Amazon but,this model is not available any longer but there are many similar ones available.
I like it but it don’t get it out unless I’m chopping a lot of things. The green grid thar pushes the vegs through the blades can be a little tricky to clean.

I went into the local flea market today. I came out with a Gooseberry patch cookbook. I might run in next week and pick up the other two issues of those I saw. I've got serious regrets over not grabbing them, lol. But nothing else appealed though I had a good long nose around looking for any sort of treasure.

DeleteI really have trouble finding anything in our second hand stores. I have heard that the employees get first crack at the donations. Means less for the rest of us.

DeleteThanks for the veg chopper info, Rhonda. I had looked at these on amazon but a number of reviews said they were really hard to use. Don't have much strength in my hands anymore so gave it a miss.

ReplyDeleteI think you would need a little more strength in your arms than in your hands to use a chopper like ours. But I don’t find it difficult.
DeleteYou would still need to use a knife to cut your vegs to fit on the 3 inch square.
I think you could use this kind of chopper but I’m not sure since I don’t actually know you.
I have a similar food chopper. It's wonderful for chopping veggies for making relishes. Thrift stores don't seem to have much these days. I wonder if people are hanging on to their stuff just in case? Like you, I like to purchase my magazines there. Saves a bundle!

Who knows? My thrift stores seem pretty packed with both stock and customers, but nothing much seemed to be things I needed.
DeleteMy son lives in Indiana and he finds super things at his neighborhood thrift stores.
I have the same chopper. When I clean the green grid I use a black plastic fork I got in a salad at one time. It works better than the little tool that came with the chopper and I promptly lost. Nancy in Vancouver WA
ReplyDeleteThat’s a good tip. I use a flat little scrapper that came with a small fridge to get the ice off the freezer walls. It works better than the brush that came with the chopper.
