BEDA #19 To Do list and Replies

Sorry about no blog yesterday.  We were away from home much of the day.
Today I’m at home and working my way through  new To-Do list.
So far,  I’m on load #5 of laundry and have a couple more after these.  Why so much?  Bedding, towels to dry off Ducky after his at home bath, grands here over the weekend and then just our regular clothes and linens.

I’m not planning any meals for a few days, until we use the yummy leftovers from the weekend.

Next I’m going to answer some of your comment questions.

The electric receptacle in that cabinet is for the stove vent hood.

About this cookbook- it’s fun to read but after reading it,  I would not re-buy it.  Most the recipes are much heavier than I normally prepare- meaning I think she uses lots of butter and heavy additions.

About the Salad Shooter,  this is my 3rd salad shooter.  I got my first one when my children were young.
The first one was the small one and my second one was the bigger model.  I currently have the small one.
If I wear this one out,  I will replace it with the bigger one.
I use it mostly for grating carrots and cheese and also for slicing potatos and shredding cabbage for cole slaw.
The prices I see on Amazon today  seem really high -if you don’t know,  Amazon prices fluctuate almost daily.
I’ve seen salad shooters on EBay and Mercari. Yard sale season will be starting and I expect they can be found at some sales too.

Thank you for all the YouTube channel suggestions.  I’ll be looking them all up.
And I plan to link them a post here soon.
I watch YouTube mostly when I ride a stationary bike or folding laundry and sometimes while cooking.

BEDA #17 Saturday with some grands

Hello everyone
I made pancakes as requested and used a recipe by Joanna Gaines
They were good.  I cut back the butter from 10 tablespoons to 8 tablespoons- which is still a lot of butter for a recipe this size.

The kids worked jigsaw puzzles,  made Perler bead creations and Lego creations

I read aloud this library book and it’s such a good book.  It’s a true story about a family with 12 sons who made their own baseball team,

I enjoyed the old-fashioned style of the drawings

If you know some young baseball fans,  I think they would like this book as much as we did.

Lunch was frozen pizzas and this is our favorite frozen pizza-  they are deep dish with lots of toppings,  they cook in their own pan so there is no mess in the oven.
I buy them at Walmart and they come in several flavors

Then supper was cube steaks, mashed potatos, rolls, carrots and strawberries.

That’s the highlights of our day
Hope you’ve all had a nice Saturday

BEDA #16 - the day in photos

Hello everyone
This was a busy day
After I exercised and read my Bible- I cooked breakfast for 2
And had my hot tea

Then I moved on to doing kitchen things
I grated some Asiago and cheddar with the Salad Shooter

I made pimento cheese with part of the cheese

And put the rest of the plain grated cheddar into smaller containers- I put one in the fridge and froze the others.

I needed some groceries and because of the busy afternoon ahead, I decided to put in an Aldi Delivery
I put our wagon outside the front door for the delivery person to load
Produce and dairy
2 bags still packed with frozen veggies

And some junk and staples

I ordered the Aldi groceries at 9:59 a.m and had them all put away by 11:12 a.m.  that’s really quick I think!
We only live about 5-10 minutes from Aldi but I still think I got really good service.

In the afternoon,  I took my Dad to do 4 errands.
Then we picked up 3 grands at school and all went back to my parents for a visit.
We came home and the grands are spending the night here.
Grandpa cooked delicious burgers on the grill for supper

Then we all played some games, watched TV including 2 episodes of Super Book on Amazon Prime.  It was really good!
Now it’s time to sleep and start all over Saturday morning.

One more thing,  yesterday we picked up our freebie at Lowe’s,  a garden piñata.
It has wildflower seeds inside

Good night everyone
This grandma is tired 😴 💤

BEDA #15 a couple of simple projects

Hello everyone
I’m happy the tasks on my to do list are almost accomplished.  A few won’t get done because of our rain- planting seeds, washing my van, going to a coach-pitch ball game tonight where 2 of grandsons would be playing against each other.  They can all get done later or when they are rescheduled.

My pots and pans cabinet was not working right.
Turns out a pan that wasn’t supposed to be in there was just throwing everything off.
Before .......
5 minutes later

And that pasta pot is back over the stove with the pitchers

I don’t like my cabinets to be stuffed full.

In yesterday’s mail was a bunch of catalogs and 1 magazine.
I put them all in the recycle can after I flipped through the decorating magazine.  I don’t have any plans to do any decorating but I would like to paint the outside of our home in the distant future.
These 2 painted doors are both pretty so I kept just those pages
I have a small book where I keep home ideas

Some of the pages have handwritten lists
Some of the pages have just pictures and some have what I liked about them.
We’ve added the darker hardware to all our cabinets so countertops will be in the future,  maybe before we paint the outside.  But neither project will happen immediately.
We just spent our home improvement savings to order a much needed white vinyl privacy fence that should be installed next month.

There are clippings I saved today - glued into my book

Terri- the Nashville hot chicken recipe is one I found on line.  When I cook it,  I’ll share it if it’s good.

Hope you’re all fine.
It’s wet and chilly in Oklahoma.  ☔️ 🌧 🥶

BEDA #14

Today was a quiet, uneventful day at home.  We’ve had a busy week or so with full days and it was nice to not do much except get all the laundry caught up.
I finished this tricky puzzle.
Have any of you ever grown plants in old shoes?

Two of my favorite YouTube channels are doing VEDA - a vlog  everyday.

Hillary is a young mom of 3 expecting her 4th.  She is so organized with a pretty home all done on a budget.  Her children are adorable too.

Heidi lives in a WV with her husband who is blind.  Her children are all grown and live in another state now.
She was one of the first YouTube channels I watched way back when I discovered YouTube.

I’d love to know your YouTube favorites.

BEDA #13 recipe, weekly lists

Hello everyone
First I’ll share this weeks to do list

And meal plan- that has several meals from last weeks plan that didn’t get cooked then

I baked some cookies today-  cinnamon oatmeal squares
They are inspired by a recipe from Terri @ Blue House Journal back when she used to blog as PennyAnn Poundwise.
I’m logged about them years ago  HERE

The original recipe has a layer of raisin filling but I make them without the raisins.
Here’s my adaptation of Terri’s recipe  -they are a basic oatmeal cookie with a delicious cinnamon glaze

Terri and Rhonda’s Cinnamon oatmeal squares

In a mixer, cream
1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup brown sugar
Then add
1 egg, 1 T water and 1 t vanilla
Mix until combined.

Then add
1 1/2 C flour, 1/2 t baking soda and 1/4 t salt
Blend in.

Then stir in
1 1/2 C quick cooking oatmeal

Spread the dough into a well-greased 13x9 pan

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven.  (They took 25 minutes in my oven)

When cool, top with a glaze made of
1 heaping cup powdered sugar, 3/4 t cinnamon and enough milk (about 1 T)  to make a spreadable  glaze

When frosting has hardened up,  cut into squares and enjoy 😊

This grandson is here today as he has a mild cough - we think it’s maybe mild croup or allergies-but no school for him as schools don’t mess around when any student has any illness symptoms.

Ducky is always happy when any of the grands are here and stays right with them,
Jackson needed to work on his sight word Flashcards.  When he first started Flashcards,  he got m&ms as a reward.  But at home, his mom said he was past that now.
Well,  he wanted M&Ms and I’m a grandma who is very aware that childhood flies by so I got him some when I went to Walmart anyway for a grocery pickup.
He was happy to do his Flashcards 3 times and then he took his siblings some M&Ms when he left.
And there are lots left to put in the pantry for future visits.

This current jigsaw puzzle is rather frustrating.  The border was done when our guests were here and there were some pieces leftover.  We thought it was an error with extra pieces added to our box in the factory.
As I worked the puzzle,  I could tell it wasn’t going together right so I took apart the areas that didn’t seem right and after several tries,  got all the border pieces in and I think it is finish-able now.  (Before the border was fixed, I was almost ready to toss it in the trash)
I

Supper was a sheet pan meal- chicken apple sausage, sweet and Yukon potatoes, onions, broccoli and asparagus

Hope you all are having a good week -
❤️Rhonda

BEDA #12

Ever heard a smarty kid say “ want to hear me count to 100?  OK, 1...2...skip a few 100”
I guess that is how BEDA is going.
We had houseguests and we were busy doing things and I really couldn’t photograph much.  People just don’t understand why I would be taking photos of things like supper or purchases (things blog readers may like) but things that non-blog people don’t take photos of.

Anyway,  I think as of this afternoon,  we are back to a more normal routine.  So,  I’ll try to get back to BEDA,

We did some shopping with our guests -I will add my husband did not shop as he is a few weeks past knee surgery and doing good but not ready for shopping.

Our town has a new Home Goods and I visited it for the first time.  It’s a very nice store and huge!

I think Home Goods is a sister company to Marshalls and TJMaxx.  Prices are similar but HomeGoods only carries home things- no clothing, shoes or personal care like the other 2 stores.

I saw lots of pretty things there but it was just Soooo Much Stuff!  I was a bit overwhelmed and didn’t buy a thing.

We also visited Dollar Tree.  Our local store has been re-set and now is a Super Dollar Tree meaning they have a small section with $3 and $5 items.  The higher priced items are all together and marked.  I saw things like decent quality door mats, games, bed and decorator pillows,  nicer personal care and cleaning items.
Sorry I didn’t take any photos.

A simple thing our guests enjoyed and so did I was working jig saw puzzles.

This one was small but tricky as the pieces are all odd shapes and don’t fit back together in rows.

We started this one but it’s still in progress- and it’s tricky too.  It’s old shoes with assorted plants in them

Now I need to go do a little housework and make my weekly list.
I won’t have to cook supper though as we have leftovers.

❤️ Rhonda
