February 1- homemaking highlights from the last of January

Hello everyone
The last couple of weeks have just been normal weeks here with a little cooking, a little sewing and some family time.
My husband is itching for spring and growing things.  Our breakfast room is our sunniest room so it’s been turned into a seedling hatchery.

In the sewing room,  I made 2 new aprons for me.  The pattern is not new but one I’ve been using for more than a dozen years or so.

Both aprons are polka dot, one is lined with off white muslin and one is lined with tiny black checks

I want to do more sewing so I made a list
My granddaughter said maybe I could do one project a month and be done by November or so.  I told her I hoped to finish a lot sooner than that.  I guess we will see.

Cooking

We had homemade pizza and I used the recipe on the back of an Aldi yeast envelope for the crust.
It made a really good thin crust.
I just put the 5 simple ingredients into a bread machine on dough cycle and baked the pizza the traditional way.
Dough - 3 cups flour, 1 packet yeast, 2 T olive oil,  1 teaspoon salt and 1 cup water

I will use this recipe again!

2 grandsons and Grandpa enjoying pizza and watching an aquarium show

Some grands are still doing remote school

And we do a few crafts when we do school here too - that’s just a simple rag banner by Elizabeth

We finally got to have Christmas with the 3 grands in another town ❤️❤️❤️

Andie, RJ and Charlie

And one more recipe.  It’s a recipe I’ve made before and I like that it’s so quick to get it started with a no knead dough.
I made this with pecans instead of walnuts and it’s really good.  I added cinnamon and left out the vanilla and the frosting too.

Here’s hoping February is a good month
I’m going to try to blog everyday again like I did in December
❤️ Rhonda

  1. I love your sunny room for seedlings. I always put pecans in any recipe calling for any nut!

  2. My Aunt was famous for her nut rolls. Sadly she passed away from Covid in December. I'm not sure any of us would even have the courage right now to make them because it would be too sad.

I finally got my replacement Mueller chopper last week. I was pleasantly surprised to get a deluxe blade set with more chopping plate options.

  3. Your bakes look delicious and your grands are just adorable. I envy the time and closeness you have with most of them. We have not been able to see our granddaughter in person for over a year.

  4. Always fun to see what you're up to at home and photos of your cute grandkids. Those pizzas look really good. I love your husband's seedling hatchery - what a perfect place to start seeds! Unfortunately, we don't have anywhere in the house where we could do this. I have a blogger friend on the east coast ("Mountain Mama") that has grow lights in her basement and starts veggie and flower seeds that way. It's a labor of love, for sure!

  5. I thought I was the only one who's kitchen doubles as a greenhouse!
Oh and I want those pink bear feet slipper's.
    They are to cute!

  6. The seedlings look so nice with the promise of getting outside! Our garden we have to do something with the ph. Last few years we put stuff out and it it sits there. Had soil tested and we have to get it balanced out. I miss the canning of stuff. Plus the expense of plants and seeds and nothing.

That does look like a cute apron pattern.

As always such fun times with the grandkids and the food looks yummy!

I bet you will wipe that list out before November.

  7. Wow now I am hungry. Those grand kids are so cute, but they seem to have a foot problem.... Happy to know you are going to post more this month I miss you.

  8. Your breakfast room looks so cheerful with the little pots and their sprouts. I love vintage things and was pleased that Decades of Style still sells the flapper apron you have! I don’t have a machine, but I *think* I might be able to hand sew it!

  9. I wish I had your seedling nursery space! All my window ledges are either in a non-heated room/space or too narrow or above a heat vent. Non are condusive to seed-starting. At least not for cool-weather crops that should go in the ground in March/April. If the weather cooperates I hope to start the warm-weather crops on the porches. We'll see.

Your pizza crust recipe is very similar to mine. Dh gave me that recipe before we were married, I guess in hopes I'd say "yes" and make it for him. LOL

I like your sewing list. I have one also. 4 birth quilts (3 very over-due); pillow cases for Christmas gifts (8 or more). And today I downloaded a pattern for a crocheted sweater. Also crocheted scarves and possibly slippers or mittens. It's a list but not one I'll probably get down this year with working FT, the garden and babysitting the Little grands on Saturdays.
    Still it's a goal. :)
